5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Donald |

6 | 7 | | Anthony Garritano of Cedar Park, who passed away on February 16, |

7 | 8 | | 2019, at the age of 67; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Anthony and Ann Garritano, Don Garritano |
---|
9 | 10 | | was born in Philadelphia on January 26, 1952; he grew up in his |
---|
10 | 11 | | hometown and in Radnor, Pennsylvania, with the companionship of |
---|
11 | 12 | | three siblings, Michael, Marybeth, and Carolyn; while a student at |
---|
12 | 13 | | Villanova University, he met his future wife, Maria Talamo, and |
---|
13 | 14 | | they married at their alma mater on February 21, 1981; they were |
---|
14 | 15 | | blessed with a daughter, Gina, and two sons, Victor and Giancarlo; |
---|
15 | 16 | | and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Garritano attended the Culinary Institute of |
---|
17 | 18 | | America and was employed in Philadelphia for many years as a chef |
---|
18 | 19 | | and kitchen manager; in 1994, his wife's nursing management career |
---|
19 | 20 | | took the family to Palestine, Texas, and they later resided in |
---|
20 | 21 | | Duncanville and Victoria before settling in Cedar Park; |
---|
21 | 22 | | Mr. Garritano then left the culinary arts to work in building |
---|
22 | 23 | | component sales, roofing, construction, and solar sales and |
---|
23 | 24 | | installation, and he provided steadfast support and encouragement |
---|
24 | 25 | | for his wife in her professional advancement; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, For two decades, Mr. Garritano was a very active |
---|
26 | 27 | | member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and he participated in |
---|
27 | 28 | | Christ Renews His Parish and volunteered as kitchen manager for |
---|
28 | 29 | | Life Teen Retreats; when his youngest son was in Boy Scouts, he |
---|
29 | 30 | | became a member of the Troop Committee and served for three years as |
---|
30 | 31 | | a camping coordinator; he also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity |
---|
31 | 32 | | and Mobile Loaves and Fishes, and he donated five percent of his |
---|
32 | 33 | | business profits to local charities; a member of the Forest Oaks |
---|
33 | 34 | | Homeowners Association, he served as chair of the Pool Committee |
---|
34 | 35 | | and as a member of the Architectural Control Committee; in 2015, his |
---|
35 | 36 | | daughter gave him a rescue dog, and after learning pet therapy at |
---|
36 | 37 | | Austin Dog Alliance, he and his loyal German shepherd, Arty, |
---|
37 | 38 | | brought joy and solace to veterans, the elderly, and children |
---|
38 | 39 | | through the Leander ISD's Bow Wow Reading Dogs program; and |

39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Don Garritano lived a rich and purposeful life |

40 | 41 | | centered on his family, his faith, and his community, and he will |

41 | 42 | | forever hold a special place in the hearts of those he left behind; |

43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

44 | 45 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Donald Anthony |
