45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Donald
67 Anthony Garritano of Cedar Park, who passed away on February 16,
78 2019, at the age of 67; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Anthony and Ann Garritano, Don Garritano
910 was born in Philadelphia on January 26, 1952; he grew up in his
1011 hometown and in Radnor, Pennsylvania, with the companionship of
1112 three siblings, Michael, Marybeth, and Carolyn; while a student at
1213 Villanova University, he met his future wife, Maria Talamo, and
1314 they married at their alma mater on February 21, 1981; they were
1415 blessed with a daughter, Gina, and two sons, Victor and Giancarlo;
1516 and
1617 WHEREAS, Mr. Garritano attended the Culinary Institute of
1718 America and was employed in Philadelphia for many years as a chef
1819 and kitchen manager; in 1994, his wife's nursing management career
1920 took the family to Palestine, Texas, and they later resided in
2021 Duncanville and Victoria before settling in Cedar Park;
2122 Mr. Garritano then left the culinary arts to work in building
2223 component sales, roofing, construction, and solar sales and
2324 installation, and he provided steadfast support and encouragement
2425 for his wife in her professional advancement; and
2526 WHEREAS, For two decades, Mr. Garritano was a very active
2627 member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and he participated in
2728 Christ Renews His Parish and volunteered as kitchen manager for
2829 Life Teen Retreats; when his youngest son was in Boy Scouts, he
2930 became a member of the Troop Committee and served for three years as
3031 a camping coordinator; he also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity
3132 and Mobile Loaves and Fishes, and he donated five percent of his
3233 business profits to local charities; a member of the Forest Oaks
3334 Homeowners Association, he served as chair of the Pool Committee
3435 and as a member of the Architectural Control Committee; in 2015, his
3536 daughter gave him a rescue dog, and after learning pet therapy at
3637 Austin Dog Alliance, he and his loyal German shepherd, Arty,
3738 brought joy and solace to veterans, the elderly, and children
3839 through the Leander ISD's Bow Wow Reading Dogs program; and
3940 WHEREAS, Don Garritano lived a rich and purposeful life
4041 centered on his family, his faith, and his community, and he will
4142 forever hold a special place in the hearts of those he left behind;
4243 now, therefore, be it
4344 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
4445 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Donald Anthony
4546 Garritano and extend sincere sympathy to his loved ones; and, be it
4647 further
4748 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4849 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4950 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Don
5051 Garritano.
