45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Samuel Askins of Houston has distinguished himself
67 through his exemplary service to our nation and to his fellow
78 veterans; and
89 WHEREAS, Mr. Askins was an airborne infantryman in the
910 U.S. Army and an instructor in a drill sergeant unit during a tour
1011 of duty in Iraq; he received the Combat Infantryman's Badge in
1112 recognition of his service in Baghdad in 2004 and 2005; and
1213 WHEREAS, Following his military discharge, Mr. Askins was
1314 treated for post-traumatic stress disorder; he has since devoted
1415 his time to assisting other combat veterans who have struggled with
1516 putting their lives back together after returning from the
1617 battlefield; he was instrumental in the establishment of Camp Hope,
1718 an organization that provides interim housing and peer support for
1819 veterans suffering from PTSD, and he currently serves as the
1920 facility's director of Texas outreach; and
2021 WHEREAS, Samuel Askins is helping to provide a caring and
2122 positive environment for those healing from the invisible wounds of
2223 war, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his contributions to
2324 his fellow veterans and their families; now, therefore, be it
2425 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
2526 Legislature hereby honor Samuel Askins for his outstanding service
2627 at Camp Hope and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future;
2728 and, be it further
2829 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2930 prepared for Mr. Askins as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3031 House of Representatives.
