| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The 102nd birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly |

| 6 | 7 | | cause for celebration, and Mamie Frank Lewis of Barrett Station is |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | marking this momentous occasion in life on May 15, 2019; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born to Joe and Clara Frank in Elton, Louisiana, in |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | 1917, the former Mamie Frank grew up as the fourth of nine children; |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | when she was in elementary school, her family moved to the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Dayton/Barbers Hill area, where her father was employed by a |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | farmer; she and her siblings were put to work as well, performing |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | tasks from picking and chopping cotton to cutting wood and driving |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | tractors; the Franks became close friends with the Lewis family, |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | and her courtship with Louis Lewis led to marriage; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The couple were blessed with 13 children, and while |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | devoting herself to her home and family, Mrs. Lewis also earned |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | money through a variety of odd jobs, including ironing clothes and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | housekeeping; after her children all reached school age, she joined |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | the staff of the Crosby Independent School District, and she was |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | employed in the cafeteria for two decades before her retirement; |
|---|

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Widowed in 1976, Mrs. Lewis has also survived nine |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | of her children; today, she is the cherished matriarch of a fine |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | family that has grown to include 25 grandchildren, 55 |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | great-grandchildren, 28 great-great-grandchildren, and 2 |

| 27 | 28 | | great-great-great-grandchildren; every day, she attends the |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Barrett Station seniors program, and she worships at Shiloh |

| 29 | 30 | | Missionary Baptist Church weekly; she enjoys spending time with |

| 30 | 31 | | loved ones, traveling, and watching television shows, including In |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | the Heat of the Night, Walker, Texas Ranger, and Wheel of Fortune; |

| 32 | 33 | | in addition, she follows the Houston Rockets, taking special |

| 33 | 34 | | interest in the exploits of her favorite player, James Harden; and |

| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Mamie Frank Lewis is a source of tremendous |

| 35 | 36 | | inspiration, and in sharing the experience gained through more than |

| 36 | 37 | | a century of life well lived, she bestows a precious gift of wisdom |

| 37 | 38 | | that benefits all who are fortunate enough to know her; now, |

| 39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 40 | 41 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Mamie Frank Lewis on the joyous |
