| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Hannah Lee, a senior at Wakeland High School in |

| 7 | 8 | | at the 2019 Texas State Academic Decathlon and becoming the first |

| 8 | 9 | | participant in Academic Decathlon history to break 9,700 points; |

| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, In this rigorous competition, high school students |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | are given the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | abilities through team activities encompassing 10 disciplines: |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | art, mathematics, music, economics, essay writing, interviewing, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | language and literature, science, speech, and social science; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Hannah Lee and her Wakeland High School peers faced |

| 16 | 17 | | off against some of our state's brightest students at the Texas |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Academic Decathlon State Competition, which was held on March 8-10, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | 2019; during the event, Ms. Lee attained an impressive individual |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | score of 9,707.9 points, surpassing that of the previous national |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Academic Decathlon record holder by more than 50 points; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Lee entered the contest with many notable |

| 22 | 23 | | academic accomplishments under her belt; she previously |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | represented her school at the 2018 United States Academic Decathlon |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | National Finals and went home with more than a half-dozen gold, |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | silver, and bronze medals in mathematics, social science, music, |

| 26 | 27 | | speech, literature, science, art, and economics; she has further |

| 27 | 28 | | distinguished herself in University Interscholastic League |

| 28 | 29 | | academic competitions, having won the UIL state championship in |

| 29 | 30 | | social studies as a sophomore in 2017; and |

| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, This exceptional young Texan has brought tremendous |

| 31 | 32 | | pride to her family, her school, her community, and her state, and |

| 32 | 33 | | the hard work and dedication she has demonstrated in the pursuit of |

| 33 | 34 | | her goals are certain to serve her well in all her future endeavors; |
