| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The descendants of John and Clara Liechty are coming |

| 6 | 7 | | together in Texas from June 20 to 23, 2019, for their |

| 7 | 8 | | much-anticipated family reunion, an event that has taken place for |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | over half a century; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, John and Clara Liechty were joined in matrimony on |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | December 6, 1914, in North Dakota, and they were the parents of |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | seven children; members of the family first came to Texas during |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | World War II, to work in the shipbuilding industry; two of John and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Clara's sons, Adam and Jonathan, served in the U.S. Army during the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | war; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The first members of the family to move to Texas |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | permanently were Jim and Mary Syvrud, who arrived in 1977; since |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | then, more than 50 members of the Liechty family have settled in the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Lone Star State; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Today, there are over 270 descendants of John and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Clara Liechty; the family has been holding reunions since the early |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | 1960s, but this is the first to take place in Texas; more than 200 |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | members of the family plan to gather in Rockwall County for a long |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | weekend of festivities; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The Liechty family reunion offers those in |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | attendance an opportunity to reflect on their rich heritage and to |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | strengthen the bonds that have united them for more than a century, |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | and it is indeed a pleasure to celebrate this notable event; now, |

| 28 | 29 | | therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 2019 Liechty family reunion and |

| 31 | 32 | | extend to its participants sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and |

| 32 | 33 | | rewarding gathering; and, be it further |
