45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Members of Leadership Mission are visiting the State
67 Capitol during the 86th Legislative Session to gain greater insight
78 into the workings of state government; and
89 WHEREAS, This exceptional program provides opportunities for
910 participants to increase their knowledge of vital public issues and
1011 to visit with the leaders who are making decisions that affect their
1112 community; and
1213 WHEREAS, Meeting regularly over the course of a nine-month
1314 period, participants further develop their skills and enhance their
1415 knowledge of important public issues as they study topics ranging
1516 from the history of Mission to city and county government, the
1617 police and fire departments, health care, education, the media,
1718 federal agencies, and economic development; in addition,
1819 participants take a maquila tour; and
1920 WHEREAS, Classes inspire a spirit of activism and provide
2021 opportunities for leadership training, networking, community
2122 service, and instruction from influential figures from both the
2223 public and the private sectors; each annual Leadership group also
2324 completes a project of benefit to the community; in recent years,
2425 these projects have included donations to the Mission Historical
2526 Museum, the Speer Memorial Library, the Boys & Girls Club of
2627 Mission, and The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, as well as
2728 contributions to the Christmas Bikes initiative; and
2829 WHEREAS, Leadership Mission awards scholarships each session
2930 to members who are in college and who successfully complete the LM
3031 program; to raise funds for these scholarships, class projects, and
3132 the annual legislative trip, members participate in fund-raisers
3233 such as the popular Leadership Mission Golf Tournament and Turkey
3334 Bowl Tournament; Leadership Mission also gives back to the
3435 community by volunteering for the Back to School shopping event,
3536 National Night Out, the Mission Pink Breast Cancer Walk/Run, the
3637 Mayor's Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, the Mission Community
3738 Health and Wellness Fair, and the City of Mission Trash Bash; and
3839 WHEREAS, Through fostering a more informed and involved
3940 citizenry and developing new leaders, Leadership Mission is helping
4041 create a brighter and more promising future for the Lone Star State;
4142 now, therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
4344 Legislature hereby honor the members of Leadership Mission for
4445 their community support and extend to all program participants
4546 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4849 House of Representatives.
