5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Members of Leadership Mission are visiting the State |

6 | 7 | | Capitol during the 86th Legislative Session to gain greater insight |
---|
7 | 8 | | into the workings of state government; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, This exceptional program provides opportunities for |
---|
9 | 10 | | participants to increase their knowledge of vital public issues and |
---|
10 | 11 | | to visit with the leaders who are making decisions that affect their |
---|
11 | 12 | | community; and |
---|
12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Meeting regularly over the course of a nine-month |
---|
13 | 14 | | period, participants further develop their skills and enhance their |
---|
14 | 15 | | knowledge of important public issues as they study topics ranging |
---|
15 | 16 | | from the history of Mission to city and county government, the |
---|
16 | 17 | | police and fire departments, health care, education, the media, |
---|
17 | 18 | | federal agencies, and economic development; in addition, |
---|
18 | 19 | | participants take a maquila tour; and |
---|
19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Classes inspire a spirit of activism and provide |
---|
20 | 21 | | opportunities for leadership training, networking, community |
---|
21 | 22 | | service, and instruction from influential figures from both the |
---|
22 | 23 | | public and the private sectors; each annual Leadership group also |
---|
23 | 24 | | completes a project of benefit to the community; in recent years, |
---|
24 | 25 | | these projects have included donations to the Mission Historical |
---|
25 | 26 | | Museum, the Speer Memorial Library, the Boys & Girls Club of |
---|
26 | 27 | | Mission, and The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, as well as |
---|
27 | 28 | | contributions to the Christmas Bikes initiative; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Leadership Mission awards scholarships each session |
---|
29 | 30 | | to members who are in college and who successfully complete the LM |
---|
30 | 31 | | program; to raise funds for these scholarships, class projects, and |
---|
31 | 32 | | the annual legislative trip, members participate in fund-raisers |
---|
32 | 33 | | such as the popular Leadership Mission Golf Tournament and Turkey |
---|
33 | 34 | | Bowl Tournament; Leadership Mission also gives back to the |
---|
34 | 35 | | community by volunteering for the Back to School shopping event, |
---|
35 | 36 | | National Night Out, the Mission Pink Breast Cancer Walk/Run, the |
---|
36 | 37 | | Mayor's Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, the Mission Community |
---|
37 | 38 | | Health and Wellness Fair, and the City of Mission Trash Bash; and |

38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Through fostering a more informed and involved |
---|
39 | 40 | | citizenry and developing new leaders, Leadership Mission is helping |
---|
40 | 41 | | create a brighter and more promising future for the Lone Star State; |

41 | 42 | | now, therefore, be it |

42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby honor the members of Leadership Mission for |

44 | 45 | | their community support and extend to all program participants |

45 | 46 | | sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
