6 | 7 | | cause for celebration, and Juanita Maude Crenshaw Uselton Roberson |

7 | 8 | | of Nocona marked this momentous milestone in her life on March 26, |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born at Red River Station on the Crenshaw Ranch in |
---|
10 | 11 | | 1919, the former Juanita Crenshaw is the daughter of Lionel Preston |
---|
11 | 12 | | "Pug" Crenshaw and Cecil Miles Crenshaw; she grew up with her |
---|
12 | 13 | | siblings, Lee, Jack, Bonnie "Tooter," and Cecil Bay "Sassy," on the |
---|
13 | 14 | | ranch established in 1891 by her grandfather, Lee Crenshaw; as a |
---|
14 | 15 | | young girl, she helped with such chores as milking cows and picking |
---|
15 | 16 | | cotton; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, When she was 14 years old, she married Chris Alec |
---|
17 | 18 | | Uselton in a ceremony conducted at Red River Station; they resided |
---|
18 | 19 | | in Nocona before settling in Belcherville on a portion of the |

19 | 20 | | Crenshaw Ranch; after losing a child in infancy, they went on to |

20 | 21 | | raise three other children, Tommy Lee, Bobby Joe "Joe Boy," and |

21 | 22 | | Linda Bay; her strong work ethic served her well on the busy ranch, |

22 | 23 | | and she took on numerous responsibilities, from cooking for hired |

23 | 24 | | hands to breaking ice for the cows in winter; she and her first |

24 | 25 | | husband shared a rewarding relationship of nearly a half-century |
---|
25 | 26 | | until his passing in 1982; subsequently, she was joined in |
---|
26 | 27 | | matrimony to Ross Roberson, who died in 1997; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Roberson became the beloved "Nina" of five |
---|
28 | 29 | | treasured grandchildren, and she provided them with many happy |
---|
29 | 30 | | times on the ranch while teaching them a wide range of skills and |
---|
30 | 31 | | life lessons; through the years, she has also been blessed with 10 |
---|
31 | 32 | | great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren; although she |
---|
32 | 33 | | gave up driving her pickup truck at the age of 98, she continues to |
---|
33 | 34 | | enjoy fishing, antiquing, doing yard work, riding with |
---|
34 | 35 | | grandchildren or her son to "check the cows", walking, visiting |
---|
35 | 36 | | friends, going to the lake cabin with family, and sharing funny |

36 | 37 | | stories; she was a longtime volunteer with the Nocona General |
---|
37 | 38 | | Hospital Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels, and she is a member of the |

38 | 39 | | First Baptist Church; and |

39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, A source of inspiration to all who know her, Juanita |

40 | 41 | | Roberson has witnessed a panorama of change over the course of a |

41 | 42 | | century, and she has met life's challenges and opportunities with |

42 | 43 | | dignity and grace, earning the deep admiration of all who are |

43 | 44 | | privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it |

44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

45 | 46 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Juanita Maude Crenshaw Uselton |

46 | 47 | | Roberson on her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes |
