5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Charles Richard Queen, a distinguished air |

6 | 7 | | force veteran and an esteemed physician and civic leader in |

7 | 8 | | Edinburg, has long benefited his fellow citizens through his record |

8 | 9 | | of service to his community; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, During World War II, Colonel Queen flew combat |
---|
10 | 11 | | missions in Europe with the 23rd Squadron, 36th Fighter Group, of |
---|
11 | 12 | | the U.S. Air Force, and he later researched and compiled a wartime |
---|
12 | 13 | | history of the unit; after reenlisting as a flight surgeon in the |
---|
13 | 14 | | 1970s, he was stationed at Rhein-Main, Germany, and promoted to |
---|
14 | 15 | | chief of aeromedical services with responsibility for overseeing |
---|
15 | 16 | | the Middle East and Africa, as well as transatlantic flights and the |
---|
16 | 17 | | base hospital; in 1977, he was called to the scene of one of the most |
---|
17 | 18 | | tragic crashes in commercial aviation history, the Tenerife airport |
---|
18 | 19 | | disaster, where he was the chief medical officer in charge of the |
---|
19 | 20 | | rescue; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Queen enjoyed a career spanning 40 years as a |
---|
21 | 22 | | physician in Edinburg, which included service as chief of staff of |
---|
22 | 23 | | Edinburg General Hospital and as director of disaster medical |
---|
23 | 24 | | services during Hurricane Beulah in 1967; he was also the chair of |
---|
24 | 25 | | state chapters and committees of the Texas Medical Association and |
---|
25 | 26 | | the Academy of Family Practice; a pillar of his community, he has |
---|
26 | 27 | | further given of his time and talents as president of the Edinburg |
---|
27 | 28 | | Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Edinburg, and the local |
---|
28 | 29 | | American Field Service chapter and as a director of First National |
---|
29 | 30 | | Bank; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Blessed with a loving family, Dr. Queen is a proud |
---|
31 | 32 | | husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; over the |
---|
32 | 33 | | years, he has found tremendous fulfillment in his service as a |
---|
33 | 34 | | scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America; he mentored, supported, |
---|
34 | 35 | | and guided dozens of young men in obtaining the prestigious Eagle |
---|
35 | 36 | | Scout rank, and in the early 1960s, he led his troop on many |
---|
36 | 37 | | exciting adventures across Texas, New Mexico, and Mexico; and |
---|
37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Respected and admired by all who are privileged to |
---|
38 | 39 | | know him, Dr. Charles Queen may reflect with satisfaction on all |
---|
39 | 40 | | that he has achieved over the course of a truly remarkable life, and |
---|
40 | 41 | | it is a pleasure to join with his many loved ones and friends in |

41 | 42 | | honoring him; now, therefore, be it |

42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby recognize Dr. Charles Richard Queen for his |

44 | 45 | | lifetime of accomplishments and extend to him sincere best wishes |
