45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Dr. Charles Richard Queen, a distinguished air
67 force veteran and an esteemed physician and civic leader in
78 Edinburg, has long benefited his fellow citizens through his record
89 of service to his community; and
910 WHEREAS, During World War II, Colonel Queen flew combat
1011 missions in Europe with the 23rd Squadron, 36th Fighter Group, of
1112 the U.S. Air Force, and he later researched and compiled a wartime
1213 history of the unit; after reenlisting as a flight surgeon in the
1314 1970s, he was stationed at Rhein-Main, Germany, and promoted to
1415 chief of aeromedical services with responsibility for overseeing
1516 the Middle East and Africa, as well as transatlantic flights and the
1617 base hospital; in 1977, he was called to the scene of one of the most
1718 tragic crashes in commercial aviation history, the Tenerife airport
1819 disaster, where he was the chief medical officer in charge of the
1920 rescue; and
2021 WHEREAS, Dr. Queen enjoyed a career spanning 40 years as a
2122 physician in Edinburg, which included service as chief of staff of
2223 Edinburg General Hospital and as director of disaster medical
2324 services during Hurricane Beulah in 1967; he was also the chair of
2425 state chapters and committees of the Texas Medical Association and
2526 the Academy of Family Practice; a pillar of his community, he has
2627 further given of his time and talents as president of the Edinburg
2728 Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Edinburg, and the local
2829 American Field Service chapter and as a director of First National
2930 Bank; and
3031 WHEREAS, Blessed with a loving family, Dr. Queen is a proud
3132 husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; over the
3233 years, he has found tremendous fulfillment in his service as a
3334 scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America; he mentored, supported,
3435 and guided dozens of young men in obtaining the prestigious Eagle
3536 Scout rank, and in the early 1960s, he led his troop on many
3637 exciting adventures across Texas, New Mexico, and Mexico; and
3738 WHEREAS, Respected and admired by all who are privileged to
3839 know him, Dr. Charles Queen may reflect with satisfaction on all
3940 that he has achieved over the course of a truly remarkable life, and
4041 it is a pleasure to join with his many loved ones and friends in
4142 honoring him; now, therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
4344 Legislature hereby recognize Dr. Charles Richard Queen for his
4445 lifetime of accomplishments and extend to him sincere best wishes
4546 for continued happiness; and, be it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for Dr. Queen as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4849 House of Representatives.
