5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Fort Worth business community lost an esteemed |

6 | 7 | | leader with the passing of Alan Dean Luskey on April 11, 2019, at |

7 | 8 | | the age of 59; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Sylvia and Gary Luskey, Alan Luskey was |

9 | 10 | | born in Fort Worth on July 19, 1959, and grew up with three |
---|
10 | 11 | | siblings, Larry, Sharon, and Melanie; he began working in his |
---|
11 | 12 | | family's western wear store when he was still in elementary school, |
---|
12 | 13 | | and after completing his bachelor's degree in finance at The |
---|
13 | 14 | | University of Texas at Austin, he joined the business on a full-time |
---|
14 | 15 | | basis; he represented the third generation at Luskey's Western |
---|
15 | 16 | | Stores, which became Luskey's/Ryon's after the purchase of Ryon's |
---|
16 | 17 | | Saddle Shop in the Fort Worth Stockyards in 1982; over the years, he |
---|
17 | 18 | | enjoyed making custom boots for many people he admired, and |
---|
18 | 19 | | following the sale of the business to the Cavender's chain in 2016, |
---|
19 | 20 | | he continued to serve in a management role; he was always an |
---|
20 | 21 | | ambassador for the stockyards, and in 2017, the City of Fort Worth |
---|
21 | 22 | | recognized September 30 as "Alan Luskey Day"; the following year, |
---|
22 | 23 | | he was inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame along with other |
---|
23 | 24 | | members of his family; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In 1981, Mr. Luskey married the former Susan May, |
---|
25 | 26 | | and they resided in Odessa and Lubbock before settling in Fort Worth |
---|
26 | 27 | | in 1991; they were blessed with two children, Stephen and Taylor, |
---|
27 | 28 | | who were his life's joy; eventually, he welcomed their spouses, |
---|
28 | 29 | | Meredith and Thomas, into his treasured family, and he spent many |
---|
29 | 30 | | happy times with his grandchildren, Walker, Lyle, Archer, Margot, |
---|
30 | 31 | | and Louisa, who called him "Boots"; his grandson, Thomas, preceded |
---|
31 | 32 | | him in death; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Luskey expressed his Longhorn pride by riding a |
---|
33 | 34 | | burnt orange Harley Davidson on many cross-country trips with |
---|
34 | 35 | | friends, but he was also a fan of his hometown Horned Frogs; a |
---|
35 | 36 | | wonderful storyteller and a great listener, he brightened the days |
---|
36 | 37 | | of innumerable people with his warmth, kindness, and marvelous |
---|
37 | 38 | | sense of humor; he continued to live life to the fullest even in the |
---|
38 | 39 | | face of significant health challenges, inspiring all through his |
---|
39 | 40 | | grace and courage, and although he will be deeply missed, those who |
---|
40 | 41 | | were privileged to know him will forever cherish their memories of |
---|
41 | 42 | | time spent in his company; now, therefore, be it |

42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alan Dean Luskey and |

44 | 45 | | extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it |
