| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Tom Rogers is retiring as legislative chair of the |

| 6 | 7 | | Austin Retired Teachers Association in May 2019, drawing to a close |

| 7 | 8 | | an outstanding tenure that has spanned a quarter century; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A dedicated educator for more than three decades, |

| 9 | 10 | | Mr. Rogers began his career at Fulmore Junior High School, where he |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | taught eighth grade science, and he went on to teach weather science |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | and various topics in geology and oceanography at Johnston High |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | School; additionally, he served as an astronomy instructor at |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Austin Community College for five years; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, After retiring from the Austin Independent School |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | District in 1992, Mr. Rogers joined the Austin Retired Teachers |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Association as well as the Texas Retired Teachers Association; he |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | has ably served as chair of the ARTA legislative committee for 25 |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | years, and in 2014, he received the highest state recognition given |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | by TRTA, the E. L. Galyean Service Award; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Rogers graduated from Highland Park High School |

| 21 | 22 | | in 1951 and continued his studies at The University of Texas at |

| 22 | 23 | | Austin, where he earned a bachelor's degree, a master's degree in |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | geology, and a teaching certificate; prior to becoming an educator, |

| 24 | 25 | | he worked for the Texas Board of Water Engineers; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The skill, professionalism, and commitment to |

| 26 | 27 | | excellence demonstrated by Tom Rogers have made him an important |

| 27 | 28 | | asset to the Austin Retired Teachers Association, and he may indeed |

| 28 | 29 | | reflect with pride on his notable record of service; now, |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Tom Rogers on his retirement as |
