| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Colonel Truong Nhu Phung is being honored for his |

| 7 | 8 | | Day at the State Capitol on April 25, 2019; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Texas is home to more than 210,000 Vietnamese |

| 9 | 10 | | Americans, and these individuals play an important role in numerous |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | fields of endeavor, including medicine, law, public and military |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | service, scientific research, and the arts; Colonel Truong Nhu |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Phung serves as an outstanding example of the exceptional |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | leadership and initiative that has been demonstrated by so many |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | members of this community; and |

| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Born in Thua Thien, Vietnam, in January 1934, Truong |

| 16 | 17 | | Nhu Phung enlisted in the South Vietnamese Army in 1952; he rose |

| 17 | 18 | | through the ranks, becoming commander of Nha Trang Cadet Training |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Center in 1963; moreover, he became captain regiment chief of the |

| 19 | 20 | | junior high school student course and head of the police department |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | of Nha Trang Khanh Hoa in 1971; in 1967, he was promoted to |

| 21 | 22 | | lieutenant colonel, and he was commander of Hoa Cam LRC until April |

| 22 | 23 | | 1975; he has been active in his community in Houston, and as |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | president of the Vietnamese Veterans Association, he organized a |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | protest against the current Vietnamese government's record on |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | freedom and human rights; kind and caring, he organizes burials for |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | veterans with no living relatives; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Colonel Truong Nhu Phung has distinguished himself |

| 28 | 29 | | through his exemplary achievements and the valuable support he has |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | provided to his fellow Vietnamese Americans in the Lone Star State, |

| 30 | 31 | | and he is indeed deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
