| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, James Tran is being honored for his significant |

| 6 | 7 | | accomplishments on the occasion of Vietnamese American Day at the |

| 7 | 8 | | State Capitol on April 25, 2019; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Texas is home to more than 210,000 Vietnamese |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Americans, and these individuals play an important role in numerous |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | fields of endeavor, including medicine, law, public and military |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | service, scientific research, and the arts; Mr. Tran serves as an |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | outstanding example of the exceptional leadership and initiative |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | that has been demonstrated by so many members of this community; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Born Tran Tri Hoang in Vietnam, Mr. Tran enrolled at |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Chu Van An High School in Saigon in 1973, and in 1980, he escaped the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | communist regime by crossing through Cambodia into Thailand; |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | settling in Texas, he graduated from Milby Senior High School in |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Houston in 1983 and studied computer science at Texas A&M |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | University; he has gone on to a successful career in the tech |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | industry, working for such major companies as Compaq Computer |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Corporation and Cisco Systems, and he is currently a senior network |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | engineer at CompuCom Systems in Houston; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Tran is a founder of Hoa Lu, a nonprofit youth |

| 24 | 25 | | group, and a member of Supporting the Disabled Veterans of the |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Republic of South Vietnamese Armed Forces, the Republic of Vietnam |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Next Generation organization, and the Houston Knights Team, which |

| 27 | 28 | | provides free assistance to stranded Vietnamese motorists; he has |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | also helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for victims of |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | flooding in Vietnam, survivors of the Indonesian tsunami, and those |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | affected by Hurricane Harvey in Southeast Texas; and |

| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Tran has distinguished himself through his |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | exemplary achievements and the valuable support he has provided to |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | his fellow Vietnamese Americans in the Lone Star State, and he is |

| 34 | 35 | | indeed deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby commend James Tran on the occasion of Vietnamese |

| 37 | 38 | | American Day at the State Capitol and extend to him sincere best |

| 38 | 39 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
