| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The city of Edinburg lost a beloved resident with |

| 6 | 7 | | the passing of Luis Antonio Alamia Jr. on November 1, 2018, at the |

| 7 | 8 | | age of 76; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Luis Alamia was born in Edinburg to Luis and Adelina |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Alamia, and he grew up with the companionship of five siblings, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Sylvia, Richard, Rudy, Linda, and Maria; a 1961 graduate of |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Edinburg High School, he attended New Mexico Highlands University, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | where he played baseball and set a national record for stolen bases; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | semiprofessional baseball for a number of years; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Following his career as an athlete, Mr. Alamia |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | served as a coach for Edinburg High School, and he went on to hold |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the position of assistant principal at Edinburg High and later at |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Edinburg North High School, from which he retired in 2013 after |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | nearly five decades in education; he was honored with induction |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | into the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 2010; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Alamia enjoyed the love |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and support of his wife of 38 years, Marcy Montelongo Alamia; he was |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the proud father of two children, Luis Alamia and Amy Anzaldua, and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include three |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | grandchildren, Tristan, Abram, and Serenity; furthermore, he was a |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | valued parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, While his loss is difficult to bear, Luis Alamia |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | leaves behind numerous friends and loved ones whose lives are far |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | richer for having known him, and he will always hold a treasured |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Luis Antonio Alamia |

| 34 | 34 | | Jr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to those who mourn his passing; |

| 35 | 35 | | and, be it further |
