| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Truong Van Tuc is being honored |

| 6 | 7 | | for his significant accomplishments on the occasion of Vietnamese |

| 7 | 8 | | American Day at the State Capitol on April 25, 2019; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Texas is home to more than 210,000 Vietnamese |

| 9 | 10 | | Americans, and these individuals play an important role in numerous |

| 10 | 11 | | fields of endeavor, including medicine, law, public and military |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | service, scientific research, and the arts; Lieutenant Colonel |

| 12 | 13 | | Truong Van Tuc serves as an outstanding example of the exceptional |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | leadership and initiative that has been demonstrated by so many |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | members of this community; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A veteran of the Vietnam War who received his |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | military training in both Vietnam and the United States, Lieutenant |

| 17 | 18 | | Colonel Truong Van Tuc served in that conflict until 1975 and was |

| 18 | 19 | | later honored for his efforts with the Army Commendation Medal; he |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | was appointed to Washington state's Indochinese Advisory Committee |

| 20 | 21 | | in 1976, and he was soon after named codirector of the Spokane |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Indochinese Refugee Center in Washington; in 1978, he and his |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | family settled in Houston, where he has since dedicated himself to |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | building a strong Vietnamese American community and to assisting |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | American and Vietnamese veterans by helping them overcome |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | difficulties in their daily lives; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Truong Van Tuc has distinguished |

| 27 | 28 | | himself through his exemplary achievements and the valuable support |

| 28 | 29 | | he has provided to his fellow Vietnamese Americans in the Lone Star |

| 29 | 30 | | State, and he is indeed deserving of special recognition; now, |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
