| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Retired Major General John H. Bailey II is being |

| 6 | 7 | | honored for his significant accomplishments on the occasion of |

| 7 | 8 | | Vietnamese American Day at the State Capitol on April 25, 2019; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army |

| 9 | 10 | | in May 1967, General Bailey served his first tour of duty in Vietnam |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | from 1967 to 1968 as a platoon leader and company commander with the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | 101st Airborne Division; he returned to Vietnam for a second tour |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | from 1971 to 1972, when he served as a pilot with the First Aviation |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Brigade, flying reconnaissance, surveillance, and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | search-and-destroy missions over South Vietnam, Laos, and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Cambodia; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, General Bailey later served for 12 years in the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | military forces of the State of Texas, rising to commanding general |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | of the Texas State Guard; he holds a bachelor's degree from |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a master's degree from |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Alcorn State University, and he is a graduate of the army's Command |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | and General Staff College; today, he serves as board chair of the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Unified Veterans of America and the National Guard Association of |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Texas and as a board member of the Aviation Science and Technology |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Department of Texas Southern University and the Adjutant General |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Board of Retired Executives; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, General Bailey is held in high regard by his fellow |

| 27 | 28 | | citizens for his professionalism and commitment to the ideals of |

| 28 | 29 | | the United States armed forces, and he may reflect with pride on his |

| 29 | 30 | | valiant service during the Vietnam War; now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
