6 | 7 | | Christi, is taking on new challenges in June 2019, following a |

7 | 8 | | distinguished 25-year tenure with the port; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Appointed executive director of the Port of Corpus |
---|
9 | 10 | | Christi in 1994, Mr. LaRue guided its development from a regional |
---|
10 | 11 | | port authority to the fourth-largest U.S. port in tonnage; he has |
---|
11 | 12 | | been instrumental in setting port policy at the state and national |
---|
12 | 13 | | levels, winning wide recognition for his expertise in port |
---|
13 | 14 | | strategy; since becoming special advisor to the port authority in |
---|
14 | 15 | | January 2019, he has remained a strong advocate for funding of the |
---|
15 | 16 | | nation's critical infrastructure; he will continue to offer his |
---|
16 | 17 | | insights in a senior advisory capacity; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. LaRue is a member of the Texas Department of |
---|
18 | 19 | | Transportation Port Authority Advisory Committee, and he |
---|
19 | 20 | | previously served as chair; in addition, he has assisted TxDOT as a |
---|
20 | 21 | | member of the Freight Advisory Committee and the Panama Canal |
---|
21 | 22 | | Stakeholder Working Group; he has been a member of Port Industries |
---|
22 | 23 | | of Corpus Christi, a coalition committed to improving the quality |
---|
23 | 24 | | of life in the region, and he has also served on the boards of the |
---|
24 | 25 | | International Refrigerated Transportation Association, the San |
---|
25 | 26 | | Antonio Free Trade Alliance, and the American Association of Port |
---|
26 | 27 | | Authorities; and |

27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Benefiting the wider community, Mr. LaRue has |
---|
28 | 29 | | served as chair of the Gulf of Mexico Foundation and on the board of |
---|
29 | 30 | | United Way; a native of Reading, Pennsylvania, he holds a |
---|
30 | 31 | | bachelor's degree and a master's degree in political science from |
---|
31 | 32 | | Villanova University; he began his career with the City of |
---|
32 | 33 | | Philadelphia and went on to serve as commissioner of the Delaware |
---|
33 | 34 | | River Port Authority and as president and CEO of the Philadelphia |
---|
34 | 35 | | Port Corporation; in 1990, he was appointed founding executive |

35 | 36 | | director of the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority; in all his |

36 | 37 | | endeavors, he has enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Diane, |

37 | 38 | | and their four sons, and he takes great pride in his four |

39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, The Port of Corpus Christi is an important engine |

40 | 41 | | for economic development, and through his vision and exemplary |

41 | 42 | | leadership, John LaRue has contributed significantly to the |

42 | 43 | | prosperity of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |

43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

44 | 45 | | Legislature hereby honor John P. LaRue for his outstanding service |

45 | 46 | | to the Port of Corpus Christi and extend to him sincere best wishes |
