45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, John P. LaRue, special advisor to the Port of Corpus
67 Christi, is taking on new challenges in June 2019, following a
78 distinguished 25-year tenure with the port; and
89 WHEREAS, Appointed executive director of the Port of Corpus
910 Christi in 1994, Mr. LaRue guided its development from a regional
1011 port authority to the fourth-largest U.S. port in tonnage; he has
1112 been instrumental in setting port policy at the state and national
1213 levels, winning wide recognition for his expertise in port
1314 strategy; since becoming special advisor to the port authority in
1415 January 2019, he has remained a strong advocate for funding of the
1516 nation's critical infrastructure; he will continue to offer his
1617 insights in a senior advisory capacity; and
1718 WHEREAS, Mr. LaRue is a member of the Texas Department of
1819 Transportation Port Authority Advisory Committee, and he
1920 previously served as chair; in addition, he has assisted TxDOT as a
2021 member of the Freight Advisory Committee and the Panama Canal
2122 Stakeholder Working Group; he has been a member of Port Industries
2223 of Corpus Christi, a coalition committed to improving the quality
2324 of life in the region, and he has also served on the boards of the
2425 International Refrigerated Transportation Association, the San
2526 Antonio Free Trade Alliance, and the American Association of Port
2627 Authorities; and
2728 WHEREAS, Benefiting the wider community, Mr. LaRue has
2829 served as chair of the Gulf of Mexico Foundation and on the board of
2930 United Way; a native of Reading, Pennsylvania, he holds a
3031 bachelor's degree and a master's degree in political science from
3132 Villanova University; he began his career with the City of
3233 Philadelphia and went on to serve as commissioner of the Delaware
3334 River Port Authority and as president and CEO of the Philadelphia
3435 Port Corporation; in 1990, he was appointed founding executive
3536 director of the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority; in all his
3637 endeavors, he has enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Diane,
3738 and their four sons, and he takes great pride in his four
3839 grandchildren; and
3940 WHEREAS, The Port of Corpus Christi is an important engine
4041 for economic development, and through his vision and exemplary
4142 leadership, John LaRue has contributed significantly to the
4243 prosperity of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
4344 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
4445 Legislature hereby honor John P. LaRue for his outstanding service
4546 to the Port of Corpus Christi and extend to him sincere best wishes
4647 as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; and, be it
4748 further
4849 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4950 prepared for Mr. LaRue as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5051 House of Representatives.
