45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A caring and generous life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Clifford "Gail" Rutledge of Lewisville on April 9, 2019,
78 at the age of 74; and
89 WHEREAS, The daughter of Charles and Dorothy Apple, Gail
910 Rutledge was born on December 15, 1944, in San Francisco, and she
1011 grew up with three younger siblings, Judy, Janice, and David; and
1112 WHEREAS, Ms. Rutledge earned a bachelor of science degree
1213 from the University of North Texas in 1978, and she continued her
1314 studies at Texas A&M University-Commerce, where she graduated with
1415 a master's degree in 1991; a dedicated and inspiring educator, she
1516 taught science, chemistry, and integrated physics and chemistry for
1617 more than three decades at schools in Emory, Mineola, and Tyler;
1718 after retiring in 2007, she worked as a substitute teacher in Tyler
1819 for several years; and
1920 WHEREAS, Passionate about politics, Ms. Rutledge volunteered
2021 extensively with the Denton County Democratic Party and became
2122 office manager of the organization's headquarters in 2017; she
2223 further contributed her time to teaching English as a second
2324 language to adults in the community, and she was actively involved
2425 in the American Association of University Women and the Texas
2526 American Federation of Teachers; moreover, she performed in a
2627 number of productions at the Mineola Playhouse, participated in the
2728 Progressive Leaders of Denton County Toastmasters Club, and served
2829 on the board of the Denton Bridge Studio; and
2930 WHEREAS, Above all else, Ms. Rutledge was a devoted mother to
3031 her three sons, Keith, Michael, and Brian, and she treasured the
3132 time she spent with her grandchildren, Brittany, Kennedy, Chance,
3233 and Hayes, and great-grandchildren, Cassius, Braylon, Landon, and
3334 Lakyn; and
3435 WHEREAS, Gail Rutledge possessed a generosity of spirit that
3536 expressed itself in myriad ways, and she enriched the lives of
3637 countless people with her warmth and kindness; now, therefore, be
3738 it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Clifford "Gail"
4041 Rutledge and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her
4142 passing; and, be it further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4445 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Clifford
4546 "Gail" Rutledge.
