5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A caring and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Clifford "Gail" Rutledge of Lewisville on April 9, 2019, |

7 | 8 | | at the age of 74; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Charles and Dorothy Apple, Gail |
---|
9 | 10 | | Rutledge was born on December 15, 1944, in San Francisco, and she |
---|
10 | 11 | | grew up with three younger siblings, Judy, Janice, and David; and |
---|
11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Rutledge earned a bachelor of science degree |
---|
12 | 13 | | from the University of North Texas in 1978, and she continued her |
---|
13 | 14 | | studies at Texas A&M University-Commerce, where she graduated with |
---|
14 | 15 | | a master's degree in 1991; a dedicated and inspiring educator, she |
---|
15 | 16 | | taught science, chemistry, and integrated physics and chemistry for |
---|
16 | 17 | | more than three decades at schools in Emory, Mineola, and Tyler; |
---|
17 | 18 | | after retiring in 2007, she worked as a substitute teacher in Tyler |
---|
18 | 19 | | for several years; and |
---|
19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Passionate about politics, Ms. Rutledge volunteered |
---|
20 | 21 | | extensively with the Denton County Democratic Party and became |
---|
21 | 22 | | office manager of the organization's headquarters in 2017; she |
---|
22 | 23 | | further contributed her time to teaching English as a second |
---|
23 | 24 | | language to adults in the community, and she was actively involved |
---|
24 | 25 | | in the American Association of University Women and the Texas |
---|
25 | 26 | | American Federation of Teachers; moreover, she performed in a |
---|
26 | 27 | | number of productions at the Mineola Playhouse, participated in the |
---|
27 | 28 | | Progressive Leaders of Denton County Toastmasters Club, and served |
---|
28 | 29 | | on the board of the Denton Bridge Studio; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Above all else, Ms. Rutledge was a devoted mother to |
---|
30 | 31 | | her three sons, Keith, Michael, and Brian, and she treasured the |
---|
31 | 32 | | time she spent with her grandchildren, Brittany, Kennedy, Chance, |
---|
32 | 33 | | and Hayes, and great-grandchildren, Cassius, Braylon, Landon, and |
---|
33 | 34 | | Lakyn; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Gail Rutledge possessed a generosity of spirit that |
---|
35 | 36 | | expressed itself in myriad ways, and she enriched the lives of |
---|
36 | 37 | | countless people with her warmth and kindness; now, therefore, be |
---|

38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Clifford "Gail" |

40 | 41 | | Rutledge and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her |
