| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Kay K. Sanders, Director of the School of Nurse |

| 6 | 7 | | Anesthesia at Texas Christian University, is the recipient of the |

| 7 | 8 | | 2019 Helen Lamb Outstanding Educator Award from the American |

| 8 | 9 | | Association of Nurse Anesthetists; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1980, the award recognizes certified |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | registered nurse anesthetists who further the art and science of |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | anesthesiology through the advancement of educational standards, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | thereby resulting in high-quality patient care; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The founding director of TCU's nurse anesthesia |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | program, Dr. Sanders is retiring on May 31, 2019, following a |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | distinguished career that has spanned more than three decades; |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | overseeing the department's curriculum since 1988, she developed a |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | new anesthesia program for the university in 2003; she is the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | longest-serving director of a program of this kind in Texas and has |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | been responsible for the training of more nurse anesthetists than |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | anyone else in state history; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Heralded as a consummate advocate who tirelessly |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | works to improve patient safety, Dr. Sanders is a past president of |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | the Texas Association of Nurse Anesthetists and continues to |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | support the entity in various capacities; moreover, she has held |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | leadership roles with the American Association of Nurse |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Anesthetists, and she served as board president of the Council on |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, The dedication, professionalism, and commitment to |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | excellence demonstrated by Dr. Kay Sanders have greatly benefited |

| 30 | 31 | | the medical community and her fellow citizens, and she is indeed |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Kay K. Sanders on her receipt |
