45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Edward
67 Samuel Hicks Sr. of Corpus Christi, who died on April 25, 2019, at
78 the age of 84; and
89 WHEREAS, Ed Hicks was born on April 29, 1934, in Cincinnati,
910 Ohio, to A. W. and Leona Hicks, and he grew up with three siblings,
1011 Allen, Marvin, and Joyce; he shared 61 years with his wife, Gloria,
1112 and he was the proud father of three children, Debbie, Eddie, and
1213 Charlie; later in life, he was blessed with three grandchildren,
1314 Hannah, Edward, and William; and
1415 WHEREAS, A self-made businessman, Mr. Hicks began his career
1516 in 1959 at a Chevrolet dealership in Detroit, Michigan, where he
1617 rose from salesman to sales manager; after moving with his family to
1718 Corpus Christi in 1966, he opened Ed Hicks Motors, selling
1819 pre-owned luxury cars, and over the next 50 years he and his family
1920 went on to create an automotive retail empire; today, there are six
2021 Ed Hicks dealerships in Corpus Christi, employing 250 people; and
2122 WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks cherished his faith, and he gave back to
2223 his community as a generous supporter of Texas A&M
2324 University-Corpus Christi, the Texas State Aquarium, the USS
2425 Lexington Museum on the Bay, and Gloria Hicks Elementary School,
2526 among others; he also served as a member of the Texas Medical Board,
2627 president of the Corpus Christi International Airport Board, and
2728 founder and chair of the Corpus Christi Police Foundation; in 2011,
2829 he was honored with the Kirkland Distinguished Visitor in Business
2930 Administration Award from TAMUCC, and during Buccaneer Days 2012 he
3031 served as King Alonso LIX; and
3132 WHEREAS, Ed Hicks lived a rich and purposeful life, and he
3233 leaves behind a legacy of hard work and service to others that will
3334 continue to inspire all those who knew and loved him; now,
3435 therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
3637 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Edward Samuel Hicks
3738 Sr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and many
3839 friends; and, be it further
3940 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4041 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4142 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ed Hicks.
