| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Edward |

| 6 | 7 | | Samuel Hicks Sr. of Corpus Christi, who died on April 25, 2019, at |

| 7 | 8 | | the age of 84; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ed Hicks was born on April 29, 1934, in Cincinnati, |

| 9 | 10 | | Ohio, to A. W. and Leona Hicks, and he grew up with three siblings, |

| 10 | 11 | | Allen, Marvin, and Joyce; he shared 61 years with his wife, Gloria, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | and he was the proud father of three children, Debbie, Eddie, and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Charlie; later in life, he was blessed with three grandchildren, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Hannah, Edward, and William; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A self-made businessman, Mr. Hicks began his career |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | in 1959 at a Chevrolet dealership in Detroit, Michigan, where he |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | rose from salesman to sales manager; after moving with his family to |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Corpus Christi in 1966, he opened Ed Hicks Motors, selling |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | pre-owned luxury cars, and over the next 50 years he and his family |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | went on to create an automotive retail empire; today, there are six |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Ed Hicks dealerships in Corpus Christi, employing 250 people; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks cherished his faith, and he gave back to |

| 22 | 23 | | his community as a generous supporter of Texas A&M |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | University-Corpus Christi, the Texas State Aquarium, the USS |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Lexington Museum on the Bay, and Gloria Hicks Elementary School, |

| 25 | 26 | | among others; he also served as a member of the Texas Medical Board, |

| 26 | 27 | | president of the Corpus Christi International Airport Board, and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | founder and chair of the Corpus Christi Police Foundation; in 2011, |

| 28 | 29 | | he was honored with the Kirkland Distinguished Visitor in Business |

| 29 | 30 | | Administration Award from TAMUCC, and during Buccaneer Days 2012 he |

| 30 | 31 | | served as King Alonso LIX; and |

| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Ed Hicks lived a rich and purposeful life, and he |

| 32 | 33 | | leaves behind a legacy of hard work and service to others that will |

| 33 | 34 | | continue to inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, |

| 34 | 35 | | therefore, be it |

| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Edward Samuel Hicks |

| 37 | 38 | | Sr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and many |

| 38 | 39 | | friends; and, be it further |
