5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Promise House, an independent charitable |

6 | 7 | | organization founded in 1984, is dedicated to providing essential |

7 | 8 | | services to youth experiencing homelessness in Dallas and North |

8 | 9 | | Texas; and |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The organization was established by the Lovers Lane |

10 | 11 | | United Methodist Church to provide much-needed assistance to |

11 | 12 | | homeless and runaway youth; the church purchased a large home near |
---|
12 | 13 | | downtown Dallas, which it converted into a 16-bed emergency |
---|
13 | 14 | | shelter; since that time, Promise House has kept its doors open 24 |
---|
14 | 15 | | hours a day, 365 days a year, to children, young adults, and |
---|
15 | 16 | | families in crisis, and it served more than 2,000 clients last year |
---|
16 | 17 | | alone; and |

17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, From its beginnings as an emergency shelter, Promise |

18 | 19 | | House has expanded its programming to include crisis intervention, |

19 | 20 | | transitional housing, teen pregnancy and parenting services, |

20 | 21 | | counseling, education, and outreach; in addition to offering |
---|
21 | 22 | | short-term and long-term residential services, the organization |
---|
22 | 23 | | operates a number of drop-in centers to provide easy access to |

23 | 24 | | information and resources; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, With the goal of ending youth homelessness and |

25 | 26 | | guiding its clients to safety, stability, and success, Promise |

26 | 27 | | House has helped to change countless young lives for the better, and |
---|
27 | 28 | | all those associated with this outstanding organization are to be |
---|
28 | 29 | | commended for their commitment to addressing a vital community |

29 | 30 | | need; now, therefore, be it |

30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby honor Promise House for its work to alleviate |

32 | 33 | | youth homelessness in Dallas and North Texas and extend to the |

33 | 34 | | organization and its clients sincere best wishes for the future; |
