45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Promise House, an independent charitable
67 organization founded in 1984, is dedicated to providing essential
78 services to youth experiencing homelessness in Dallas and North
89 Texas; and
910 WHEREAS, The organization was established by the Lovers Lane
1011 United Methodist Church to provide much-needed assistance to
1112 homeless and runaway youth; the church purchased a large home near
1213 downtown Dallas, which it converted into a 16-bed emergency
1314 shelter; since that time, Promise House has kept its doors open 24
1415 hours a day, 365 days a year, to children, young adults, and
1516 families in crisis, and it served more than 2,000 clients last year
1617 alone; and
1718 WHEREAS, From its beginnings as an emergency shelter, Promise
1819 House has expanded its programming to include crisis intervention,
1920 transitional housing, teen pregnancy and parenting services,
2021 counseling, education, and outreach; in addition to offering
2122 short-term and long-term residential services, the organization
2223 operates a number of drop-in centers to provide easy access to
2324 information and resources; and
2425 WHEREAS, With the goal of ending youth homelessness and
2526 guiding its clients to safety, stability, and success, Promise
2627 House has helped to change countless young lives for the better, and
2728 all those associated with this outstanding organization are to be
2829 commended for their commitment to addressing a vital community
2930 need; now, therefore, be it
3031 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
3132 Legislature hereby honor Promise House for its work to alleviate
3233 youth homelessness in Dallas and North Texas and extend to the
3334 organization and its clients sincere best wishes for the future;
3435 and, be it further
3536 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3637 prepared for Promise House as an expression of high regard by the
3738 Texas House of Representatives.
