| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Katye Howell has been named the 2019 High School |

| 6 | 7 | | Teacher of the Year in the Austin Independent School District; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A solid education is vital for young people to |

| 8 | 9 | | become successful and productive adults, and those men and women |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | who dedicate their careers to teaching make a positive difference |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | in the lives of their students and in the greater community; and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In her role as chair of the biology department at |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Travis Early College High School, Ms. Howell has worked tirelessly |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | to motivate and inspire her students; currently in her seventh year |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | of teaching, she has contributed significantly to the Travis campus |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | by hosting study halls and helping to develop a curriculum that |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | encourages literacy and addresses gaps in student knowledge; and |

| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Katye Howell exemplifies the passion, |

| 18 | 19 | | determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our |

| 19 | 20 | | best educators, and she has set a standard of excellence to which |

| 20 | 21 | | all in her profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it |

| 21 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 22 | 23 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Katye Howell on her selection as |

| 23 | 24 | | the 2019 High School Teacher of the Year in the Austin Independent |
