| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, This biennial event was established in 1997 by Rita |

| 10 | 11 | | Littlefield, a founding member of the Texas Renal Coalition and the |

| 11 | 12 | | Kidney Alliance of Texas, who has worked tirelessly for more than |

| 12 | 13 | | three decades in behalf of kidney patients; in the drive to raise |

| 13 | 14 | | awareness of a significant medical issue, the gathering unites |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | patients, health care providers, and organizations, including the |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | National Kidney Foundation, Texas Kidney Foundation, South Plains |

| 16 | 17 | | Kidney Foundation, and State Association of Medical Professionals; |

| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Although kidney disease is a serious and rapidly |

| 19 | 20 | | growing health problem, many Texans remain unaware that they are at |

| 20 | 21 | | risk; left undetected, chronic kidney disease can lead to premature |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | death from heart disease or other complications, or to kidney |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | failure, requiring dialysis or a transplant to sustain life; early |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | detection and management can prevent or slow the progression of |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | chronic kidney disease and decrease health care expenditures |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | associated with the treatment of advanced kidney disease; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Many medical professionals, organizations, and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | volunteers in the state are committed to ensuring the highest |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | quality of care for kidney patients; the Texas Renal Coalition |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | contributes significantly to this mission as it monitors health |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | policies for dialysis and transplant patients, offers education |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | programs to improve public awareness about the disease, and acts as |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | a clearinghouse for information related to legislative issues; and |

| 33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Benefiting from the dedication and leadership of |

| 34 | 35 | | Rita Littlefield, the Texas Renal Coalition, the Kidney Alliance of |

| 35 | 36 | | Texas, and their associates have made a positive difference in the |

| 36 | 37 | | lives of innumerable Texans, and it is most fitting to recognize |

| 37 | 38 | | Ms. Littlefield and these organizations for their achievements; |

| 39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
