45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Renal Coalition and the Kidney
67 Alliance of Texas are visiting Austin on February 12, 2019, to
78 participate in Rita L. Littlefield Kidney Day at the State Capitol;

910 WHEREAS, This biennial event was established in 1997 by Rita
1011 Littlefield, a founding member of the Texas Renal Coalition and the
1112 Kidney Alliance of Texas, who has worked tirelessly for more than
1213 three decades in behalf of kidney patients; in the drive to raise
1314 awareness of a significant medical issue, the gathering unites
1415 patients, health care providers, and organizations, including the
1516 National Kidney Foundation, Texas Kidney Foundation, South Plains
1617 Kidney Foundation, and State Association of Medical Professionals;
1718 and
1819 WHEREAS, Although kidney disease is a serious and rapidly
1920 growing health problem, many Texans remain unaware that they are at
2021 risk; left undetected, chronic kidney disease can lead to premature
2122 death from heart disease or other complications, or to kidney
2223 failure, requiring dialysis or a transplant to sustain life; early
2324 detection and management can prevent or slow the progression of
2425 chronic kidney disease and decrease health care expenditures
2526 associated with the treatment of advanced kidney disease; and
2627 WHEREAS, Many medical professionals, organizations, and
2728 volunteers in the state are committed to ensuring the highest
2829 quality of care for kidney patients; the Texas Renal Coalition
2930 contributes significantly to this mission as it monitors health
3031 policies for dialysis and transplant patients, offers education
3132 programs to improve public awareness about the disease, and acts as
3233 a clearinghouse for information related to legislative issues; and
3334 WHEREAS, Benefiting from the dedication and leadership of
3435 Rita Littlefield, the Texas Renal Coalition, the Kidney Alliance of
3536 Texas, and their associates have made a positive difference in the
3637 lives of innumerable Texans, and it is most fitting to recognize
3738 Ms. Littlefield and these organizations for their achievements;
3839 now, therefore, be it
3940 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
4041 Legislature hereby recognize February 12, 2019, as Rita
4142 L. Littlefield Kidney Day at the State Capitol and extend to all
4243 those participating sincere best wishes for a productive and
4344 memorable event.
