45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A team of students from Dulles High School in Sugar
67 Land won second place at the National Science Bowl in Washington,
78 D.C., April 25 to 29, 2019; and
89 WHEREAS, The National Science Bowl is a nationwide academic
910 competition that tests students' knowledge in all areas of science
1011 and mathematics; middle and high school student teams from diverse
1112 backgrounds are composed of four students, one alternate, and a
1213 teacher who serves as an advisor and coach; these teams face off in
1314 a fast-paced question-and-answer format, being tested on a range of
1415 disciplines including biology, chemistry, Earth science, physics,
1516 energy, and math; and
1617 WHEREAS, Competing against 64 teams from across the country,
1718 the Dulles students took home the silver, making them the
1819 highest-performing team to ever come out of the Lone Star State; as
1920 a reward for their impressive achievement, the group from Dulles
2021 High received a $1,000 cash prize and a five-day trip to Alaska; and
2122 WHEREAS, These outstanding young Texans have demonstrated
2223 great skill, knowledge, and dedication, and with their fine showing
2324 during the National Science Bowl, they have brought tremendous
2425 pride to their school and community; now, therefore, be it
2526 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
2627 Legislature hereby congratulate the team from Dulles High School on
2728 placing second at the 2019 National Science Bowl and extend to the
2829 winning students and staff sincere best wishes for the future; and,
2930 be it further
3031 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3132 prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3233 House of Representatives.
