| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Lieutenant Colonel |

| 6 | 7 | | Melvin Lewis Myers Sr. of Houston were deeply saddened by his death |

| 7 | 8 | | on April 27, 2019, at the age of 82; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Melvin Myers was born on October 3, 1936, to |

| 9 | 10 | | Hannibal and Mary Myers, and he grew up with three siblings, |

| 10 | 11 | | Hannibal, Marjorie, and Forrest; after graduating from Wharton |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Training High School he went on to attend Prairie View A&M |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | University, which he continued to support throughout his life as a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | member of the school's alumni association; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In the course of his two decades in the U.S. Army, |

| 15 | 16 | | Lieutenant Colonel Myers served in Vietnam and received the Bronze |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Star Medal; following his retirement from the military, he began a |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | second career teaching in the Freehold Regional High School |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | District in New Jersey; he later went on to become the senior army |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | instructor of the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Sam Houston |

| 20 | 21 | | High School and the Barbara Jordan High School for Careers in |

| 21 | 22 | | Houston; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Myers valued his loved ones above all else; he |

| 23 | 24 | | was a devoted father to his children, Kerry and Melvin, and he took |

| 24 | 25 | | great pride in his two grandchildren, Christian and Kyle; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, While the death of Melvin Meyers brings great |

| 26 | 27 | | sadness to his family and friends, he leaves behind a legacy that |

| 27 | 28 | | will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, |
