| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Each year, NAMM confers this designation on |

| 9 | 10 | | districts and schools that demonstrate outstanding achievement in |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | efforts to provide music access and education to all students; |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | CFISD also earned this accolade in 2018; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, To qualify for the recognition, school districts |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | provided detailed information about funding, graduation |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | requirements, music class participation, instruction time, |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | facilities, support for the music program, and community |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | music-making programs; responses were verified with school |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | officials and reviewed by the Music Research Institute at the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | University of Kansas; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, More than 70,000 students participate in CFISD music |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | programs; the district offers secondary classroom instruction for |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | band, choir, orchestra, and music theory, as well as opportunities |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | for students at every grade level to participate in music-making; |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | school ensembles perform at community functions, as well as on |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | their campuses and at district-wide events; area residents have |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | demonstrated their support by passing bonds, including funds for |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | such amenities as acoustical shell systems now in use at the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | district's 12 comprehensive high schools and a new center for |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | visual and performing arts; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Vibrant music programs contribute significantly to |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | the intellectual, personal, and social development of youngsters, |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | and the quality of the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD offerings are a source |

| 32 | 33 | | of tremendous pride to local citizens; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent |

| 35 | 36 | | School District on its receipt of a 2019 Best Communities for Music |
