| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The La Joya Independent School District is making an |

| 6 | 7 | | invaluable contribution to its community by providing young Texans |

| 7 | 8 | | with the tools they need to become responsible and productive |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | members of society; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A rapidly growing district, La Joya ISD includes 23 |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | elementary schools, 8 middle schools, and 6 high schools, as well as |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | the College & Career Center, the Academy of Health Science |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Professions & STEM, La Joya ISD Head Start, and the La Joya ISD |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | HOPE, East, and West Academies; the district's administrators have |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | worked tirelessly to encourage more young people to pursue higher |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | education, which has resulted in a rising number of students in |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | dual-enrollment courses and career and technology programs; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In recent years, La Joya ISD has earned recognition |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | for its low dropout rate and the high percentage of its students who |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | graduate with a recommended or distinguished achievement diploma; |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | the district offers a well-rounded curriculum, and La Joya students |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | have excelled in a range of activities and events, including band |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | competitions, FIRST Robotics, and the Rio Grande Valley Regional |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Science and Engineering Fair; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, La Joya ISD benefits greatly from the vision and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | expertise of superintendent Dr. Alda Benavides, who was named the |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | 2015 Superintendent of the Year for Region 1 by the Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Association of School Boards and was ranked among the top five |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | superintendents in the state; students and faculty are also |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | fortunate to be served by a dedicated board of trustees, which has |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | been named the Region 1 School Board of the Year and a Top Five Honor |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | Board; and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is a vital |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | enterprise, and La Joya ISD is deserving of recognition for its |

| 34 | 35 | | outstanding efforts to create a challenging and supportive learning |

| 35 | 36 | | environment that prepares students for future success; now, |

| 37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby honor the La Joya Independent School District |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | and commend the district's administrators, faculty, and staff for |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | their continuing pursuit of excellence; and, be it further |

| 41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
