45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The La Joya Independent School District is making an
67 invaluable contribution to its community by providing young Texans
78 with the tools they need to become responsible and productive
89 members of society; and
910 WHEREAS, A rapidly growing district, La Joya ISD includes 23
1011 elementary schools, 8 middle schools, and 6 high schools, as well as
1112 the College & Career Center, the Academy of Health Science
1213 Professions & STEM, La Joya ISD Head Start, and the La Joya ISD
1314 HOPE, East, and West Academies; the district's administrators have
1415 worked tirelessly to encourage more young people to pursue higher
1516 education, which has resulted in a rising number of students in
1617 dual-enrollment courses and career and technology programs; and
1718 WHEREAS, In recent years, La Joya ISD has earned recognition
1819 for its low dropout rate and the high percentage of its students who
1920 graduate with a recommended or distinguished achievement diploma;
2021 the district offers a well-rounded curriculum, and La Joya students
2122 have excelled in a range of activities and events, including band
2223 competitions, FIRST Robotics, and the Rio Grande Valley Regional
2324 Science and Engineering Fair; and
2425 WHEREAS, La Joya ISD benefits greatly from the vision and
2526 expertise of superintendent Dr. Alda Benavides, who was named the
2627 2015 Superintendent of the Year for Region 1 by the Texas
2728 Association of School Boards and was ranked among the top five
2829 superintendents in the state; students and faculty are also
2930 fortunate to be served by a dedicated board of trustees, which has
3031 been named the Region 1 School Board of the Year and a Top Five Honor
3132 Board; and
3233 WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is a vital
3334 enterprise, and La Joya ISD is deserving of recognition for its
3435 outstanding efforts to create a challenging and supportive learning
3536 environment that prepares students for future success; now,
3637 therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby honor the La Joya Independent School District
3940 and commend the district's administrators, faculty, and staff for
4041 their continuing pursuit of excellence; and, be it further
4142 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4243 prepared for the district as an expression of high regard by the
4344 Texas House of Representatives.
