45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Dajia Contreras made history by becoming Corpus
67 Christi's first female Golden Gloves state boxing champion with her
78 win at the 2019 state tournament; and
89 WHEREAS, Fighting in the elite female 106-pound weight
910 division, Ms. Contreras captured the title with a victory in the
1011 tournament finals on March 9 in Fort Worth; and
1112 WHEREAS, This determined athlete took up boxing at the age of
1213 12, initially hoping to learn how to defend herself; she grew to
1314 love the sport and embarked on a successful training regimen under
1415 the direction of her grandfather, Johnny Contreras, a former
1516 professional fighter; and
1617 WHEREAS, A senior at Ray High School, Ms. Contreras plans to
1718 continue boxing after graduation and will pursue her academic
1819 studies at Del Mar College; and
1920 WHEREAS, Through her hard work and enduring commitment to
2021 excellence, Dajia Contreras has become a source of tremendous pride
2122 to her community, and her accomplishments indeed merit special
2223 recognition; now, therefore, be it
2324 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
2425 Legislature hereby congratulate Dajia Contreras on becoming the
2526 first female Golden Gloves state boxing champion from Corpus
2627 Christi and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
2728 success; and, be it further
2829 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2930 prepared for Ms. Contreras as an expression of high regard by the
3031 Texas House of Representatives.
