| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America |

| 7 | 7 | | volunteers from across Texas are gathering in Austin on February |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 13, 2019, to promote public safety measures that can protect people |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | from gun violence; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Moms Demand Action advocates devote countless hours |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | to educating parents on the importance of safely storing firearms, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | distributing cable locks, honoring victims and survivors of gun |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | violence, and raising awareness of the gun violence epidemic; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Data indicates that almost 100 people in the United |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | States are killed by gun violence each day, and each year there are |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | approximately 13,000 gun homicides; Americans are 25 times more |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | likely to be killed with guns than those in other developed |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | countries; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Protecting public safety in our communities is among |

| 20 | 20 | | legislators' most important responsibilities, and support for the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens goes hand in hand |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | with keeping guns away from dangerous people; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Citizens and public servants of Texas should renew |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | their commitment to reducing gun violence, pledge to do all they can |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | to keep firearms out of the wrong hands, and encourage responsible |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | gun ownership to help keep everyone safe; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 28 | 28 | | Legislature hereby recognize Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in |

| 29 | 29 | | America for the organization's efforts to reduce gun violence and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | call on all Texans to support efforts to prevent the tragic effects |

| 31 | 31 | | of gun violence. |
