45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Richard Gilmore Lauderdale of Fort Worth passed away
67 on March 15, 2019, at the age of 74, leaving behind a loving family
78 and many dear friends to cherish his memory; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in Fort Worth on January 2, 1945, to Dr. Thomas
910 Lauderdale and Margaret Lauderdale, Gilmore Lauderdale grew up with
1011 the companionship of two brothers, Thomas and Caleb; he attended
1112 military school and went on to graduate from R. L. Paschal High
1213 School in 1962 before continuing his studies at Texas Christian
1314 University; in 1968, he enlisted in the United States Army, and he
1415 was deployed to Germany to serve during the Vietnam War; and
1516 WHEREAS, After returning home to Fort Worth and Eagle
1617 Mountain Lake, Mr. Lauderdale met and married Carol Godbey, with
1718 whom he shared the joy of raising two children, Christopher and
1819 Leigh Anne; he was actively involved in his children's lives and
1920 supported them by coaching their soccer and basketball teams and
2021 riding horses competitively with his daughter; no matter the
2122 activity, he always made it his goal to instill in them morals,
2223 values, and life lessons, and he served as a role model to them
2324 through his generosity and compassion toward others; and
2425 WHEREAS, An entrepreneur, Mr. Lauderdale decided to strike
2526 out on his own after working for a time in the poultry business and
2627 became the president, owner, and operator of Fort Worth Poultry &
2728 Egg Company at the Fort Worth Stockyards; he enjoyed spending time
2829 on the water, whether waterskiing competitively or sailing, and
2930 this passion also led him to open the popular Lauderdale's on the
3031 Lake and Shrimper's restaurants; and
3132 WHEREAS, Mr. Lauderdale led an adventurous life that
3233 included motorcycle trips to Mexico, surfing in Costa Rica, and
3334 scuba diving in the Bahamas; he also treasured the companionship of
3435 a host of longtime friends and of his loyal golden retriever,
3536 Handsome Sammy; moreover, he drew guidance and inspiration from his
3637 faith and served as an active member of St. Anne's Episcopal
3738 Church; and
3839 WHEREAS, Gilmore Lauderdale made a positive impact in many
3940 lives through his personal and professional achievements, and he
4041 will forever be remembered with admiration and affection by those
4142 who were fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
4344 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Richard Gilmore
4445 Lauderdale and extend sincere sympathy to his loved ones and
4546 friends; and, be it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4849 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Richard
4950 Gilmore Lauderdale.
