55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, The tragic deaths of six migrant children in federal
77 custody have brought immeasurable sorrow to their loved ones and to
88 this nation where they sought refuge; and
99 WHEREAS, On September 29, 2018, a 10-year-old girl from El
1010 Salvador who had a history of congenital heart defects perished of
1111 fever and respiratory distress; and
1212 WHEREAS, Seven-year-old Jakelin Caal Maquin died on December
1313 8, 2018, in El Paso of a bacterial infection; and
1414 WHEREAS, Felipe Alonzo Gómez, age eight, died on Christmas
1515 Eve in El Paso from Influenza B and a bacterial infection; and
1616 WHEREAS, On April 30, 2019, Juan de León Gutiérrez, age 16,
1717 died in El Paso from a brain infection; and
1818 WHEREAS, Two-year-old Wilmer Josué Ramírez Vázquez of
1919 Guatemala died in El Paso on May 14, after being diagnosed with
2020 pneumonia; and
2121 WHEREAS, At the Weslaco Border Patrol Station, 16-year-old
2222 Carlos Gregorio Hernandez Vazquez, who was diagnosed with Influenza
2323 A, died on May 20; and
2424 WHEREAS, The United States has long been a beacon of liberty,
2525 justice, and opportunity, and the loss of these six young lives
2626 reminds us that our nation's ideals exert a powerful pull on those
2727 hoping for a better life; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
2929 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of the six migrant
3030 children who died in federal custody between September 2018 and May
3131 2019 and extend deepest condolences to all who mourn their passing.
