| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Development in the region began in 1912, when John |

| 9 | 10 | | H. Shary invested in property and irrigation to expand early |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | experimental citrus groves into a commercial venture; remembered as |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | the "Father of the Texas Citrus Industry," he built what is now |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | known as the Shary Shivers Estate, a historic home where President |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Dwight D. Eisenhower visited and the 37th governor of Texas, Allan |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Shivers, married Marialice Shary; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Palmhurst was officially incorporated on January |

| 16 | 17 | | 25, 1964; governed by a mayor and five city council members, the |

| 17 | 18 | | business-friendly town is home to a host of retail shops, and the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | region's climate is favorable to tourism as well as agriculture; |

| 19 | 20 | | visitors can observe numerous beautiful species of local and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | migratory birds in the area, and they are drawn to such attractions |

| 21 | 22 | | as the Hidalgo Pumphouse, which houses machinery that was used for |

| 22 | 23 | | development a century ago; and |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Preserving a small-town charm while working to build |

| 24 | 25 | | a bright future, the residents of Palmhurst may indeed take great |

| 25 | 26 | | pride in their community; now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 27 | 28 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 5, 2019, as Palmhurst Day at the |

| 28 | 29 | | State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere best |
