| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Michael Miller of Midland is retiring from |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Permian Cardiology on December 30, 2018, drawing to a close a |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | distinguished career in medicine that has spanned nearly four |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | decades; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born and raised in Amarillo, Michael Miller received |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | his bachelor's degree from Baylor University before earning his |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | medical degree at The University of Texas Health Science Center at |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | San Antonio in 1979; he began his career with the U.S. Navy, serving |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | on the faculty of the Uniformed Services University of the Health |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and as chief of cardiology at the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | naval hospital in Oakland, California, where he was also director |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | of the internal medicine training program; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1989, following his military service, Dr. Miller |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | joined Permian Cardiology in Midland, where he specialized in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | preventive cardiology and the treatment of myocardial infarction; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | he played a vital role in establishing the Myocardial Infarction |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Task Force at Midland Memorial Hospital, helping the institution |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | win three Gold Awards from the American Heart Association; in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | addition, he has taught as a clinical associate professor at the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | served as the regional councilor and legislative chair of the Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Chapter of the American College of Cardiology; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Miller has found time to give back to his |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | community as a board member of the American Heart Association, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | United Way, and Casa de Amigos, and he has been involved for many |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | years with the Boy Scouts; deeply devoted to his faith, he has |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | traveled to Guyana on a medical mission trip and actively supported |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Samaritan's Purse; in all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | support of his wife, Linda, and he takes pride in their two children |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | and four grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Miller's dedication, professionalism, and |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | expertise have greatly benefited his patients and the community of |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Midland, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | as he embarks upon the next exciting chapter of his life; now, |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Michael Miller on his |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | retirement from Permian Cardiology and extend to him sincere best |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | prepared for Dr. Miller as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|---|
