55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, Dr. Michael Miller of Midland is retiring from
77 Permian Cardiology on December 30, 2018, drawing to a close a
88 distinguished career in medicine that has spanned nearly four
99 decades; and
1010 WHEREAS, Born and raised in Amarillo, Michael Miller received
1111 his bachelor's degree from Baylor University before earning his
1212 medical degree at The University of Texas Health Science Center at
1313 San Antonio in 1979; he began his career with the U.S. Navy, serving
1414 on the faculty of the Uniformed Services University of the Health
1515 Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and as chief of cardiology at the
1616 naval hospital in Oakland, California, where he was also director
1717 of the internal medicine training program; and
1818 WHEREAS, In 1989, following his military service, Dr. Miller
1919 joined Permian Cardiology in Midland, where he specialized in
2020 preventive cardiology and the treatment of myocardial infarction;
2121 he played a vital role in establishing the Myocardial Infarction
2222 Task Force at Midland Memorial Hospital, helping the institution
2323 win three Gold Awards from the American Heart Association; in
2424 addition, he has taught as a clinical associate professor at the
2525 Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine and
2626 served as the regional councilor and legislative chair of the Texas
2727 Chapter of the American College of Cardiology; and
2828 WHEREAS, Dr. Miller has found time to give back to his
2929 community as a board member of the American Heart Association,
3030 United Way, and Casa de Amigos, and he has been involved for many
3131 years with the Boy Scouts; deeply devoted to his faith, he has
3232 traveled to Guyana on a medical mission trip and actively supported
3333 Samaritan's Purse; in all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and
3434 support of his wife, Linda, and he takes pride in their two children
3535 and four grandchildren; and
3636 WHEREAS, Dr. Miller's dedication, professionalism, and
3737 expertise have greatly benefited his patients and the community of
3838 Midland, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent
3939 as he embarks upon the next exciting chapter of his life; now,
4040 therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
4242 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Michael Miller on his
4343 retirement from Permian Cardiology and extend to him sincere best
4444 wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for Dr. Miller as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4747 House of Representatives.
