45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Jasper County lost a respected and much-loved civic
67 leader with the passing of Bobby Joe Hadnot on August 24, 2018, at
78 the age of 80; and
89 WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of the county, Bobby Joe Hadnot
910 was born on March 27, 1938, to Grady Hadnot and Lorraine McCray
1011 Green, and he benefited in his youth from the guidance and affection
1112 of his grandparents, Tat and Ludy Hadnot and Albert and Francis
1213 McCray; he graduated from J. H. Rowe High School in 1956 and became
1314 a certified electrician after attending Prairie View A&M
1415 University; and
1516 WHEREAS, Mr. Hadnot was drafted into the United States Army
1617 in 1962, and upon completing his military service, he returned to
1718 Jasper County and worked at his paternal grandfather's logging
1819 business and his maternal grandparents' farm; he subsequently began
1920 a successful and trailblazing career with the U.S. Army Corps of
2021 Engineers that spanned 42 years, and he went on to become the first
2122 African American elected president of the corps' local AFL-CIO
2223 trade union; and
2324 WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Hadnot served as
2425 president of Citizens for Progress, an organization that worked to
2526 advance causes of import to Jasper's African American population
2627 during the 1980s and 1990s; in addition, he held leadership
2728 positions as president of the Jasper Rural Water Board and vice
2829 president of the board for the Beech Grove Volunteer Fire
2930 Department, which he played an instrumental role in creating; he
3031 was also a lifelong member of the historic Dixie Baptist Church; and
3132 WHEREAS, Mr. Hadnot was deeply involved in the upkeep of the
3233 Indian Creek Cemetery, where he oversaw a homecoming celebration
3334 every summer; committed to preserving local history, he shared his
3435 knowledge of Jasper County with several organizations, and he
3536 joined together with like-minded citizens to establish the
3637 Community and Family Historical Preservation Association; and
3738 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Hadnot enjoyed the love
3839 and support of his wife, Ruthie Jean Mitchell Hadnot, with whom he
3940 shared 57 rewarding years of marriage; the couple raised three
4041 children, Vanessa, Valencia, and Dynetro, and were further blessed
4142 with two grandchildren, Daniel and Dymaia; and
4243 WHEREAS, Bobby Joe Hadnot was a devoted family man, a pillar
4344 of his community, and a source of inspiration to countless people,
4445 and he leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by those
4546 who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
4647 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
4748 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Bobby Joe Hadnot and
4849 extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his passing; and, be it
4950 further
5051 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5152 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5253 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bobby Joe
5354 Hadnot.
