45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Honorable Jon H. Burrows of Temple retired as
67 Bell County judge on December 31, 2018, drawing to a close an
78 outstanding tenure that spanned two decades; and
89 WHEREAS, Judge Burrows was first elected county judge in
910 1998, and he served five terms; providing valuable leadership for a
1011 region experiencing dramatic population growth, he played major
1112 roles in the construction of the Bell County Justice Center and the
1213 Bell County Expo Center Equine/Livestock Complex; he also helped
1314 oversee the opening of the Bell County Communications Center and
1415 the renovation of the historic county courthouse; and
1516 WHEREAS, A past president of the North and East Texas County
1617 Judges and Commissioners Association, Judge Burrows has tirelessly
1718 advocated for his fellow citizens through his involvement with the
1819 National Association of Counties, the Texas Association of
1920 Counties, the Texas Conference of Urban Counties, and the Texas
2021 Indigent Defense Commission; moreover, he has served as a member of
2122 the State Bar of Texas and the Bell County Bar Association and with
2223 the Central Texas Council of Governments; and
2324 WHEREAS, After receiving a bachelor's degree and a master's
2425 degree in music education from the University of Oklahoma, Judge
2526 Burrows went on to earn a law degree from The University of Texas at
2627 Austin; additionally, he proudly served with the United States Air
2728 Force and the U.S. Air Force Reserve, retiring as a colonel; and
2829 WHEREAS, The dedication and integrity demonstrated by Jon
2930 Burrows have greatly benefited the residents of Bell County and
3031 earned him the respect and admiration of his peers, and he may
3132 indeed reflect with pride on his many achievements as the county's
3233 chief executive officer; now, therefore, be it
3334 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
3435 Legislature hereby congratulate Jon H. Burrows on his retirement as
3536 Bell County judge and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
3637 future; and, be it further
3738 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3839 prepared for Judge Burrows as an expression of high regard by the
3940 Texas House of Representatives.
