5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Honorable Jon H. Burrows of Temple retired as |

6 | 7 | | Bell County judge on December 31, 2018, drawing to a close an |

7 | 8 | | outstanding tenure that spanned two decades; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Judge Burrows was first elected county judge in |
---|
9 | 10 | | 1998, and he served five terms; providing valuable leadership for a |
---|
10 | 11 | | region experiencing dramatic population growth, he played major |
---|
11 | 12 | | roles in the construction of the Bell County Justice Center and the |
---|
12 | 13 | | Bell County Expo Center Equine/Livestock Complex; he also helped |
---|
13 | 14 | | oversee the opening of the Bell County Communications Center and |
---|
14 | 15 | | the renovation of the historic county courthouse; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A past president of the North and East Texas County |
---|
16 | 17 | | Judges and Commissioners Association, Judge Burrows has tirelessly |
---|
17 | 18 | | advocated for his fellow citizens through his involvement with the |
---|
18 | 19 | | National Association of Counties, the Texas Association of |
---|
19 | 20 | | Counties, the Texas Conference of Urban Counties, and the Texas |
---|
20 | 21 | | Indigent Defense Commission; moreover, he has served as a member of |
---|
21 | 22 | | the State Bar of Texas and the Bell County Bar Association and with |
---|
22 | 23 | | the Central Texas Council of Governments; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, After receiving a bachelor's degree and a master's |
---|
24 | 25 | | degree in music education from the University of Oklahoma, Judge |
---|
25 | 26 | | Burrows went on to earn a law degree from The University of Texas at |
---|
26 | 27 | | Austin; additionally, he proudly served with the United States Air |
---|
27 | 28 | | Force and the U.S. Air Force Reserve, retiring as a colonel; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, The dedication and integrity demonstrated by Jon |
---|
29 | 30 | | Burrows have greatly benefited the residents of Bell County and |
---|
30 | 31 | | earned him the respect and admiration of his peers, and he may |
---|
31 | 32 | | indeed reflect with pride on his many achievements as the county's |
---|
32 | 33 | | chief executive officer; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
---|
34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Jon H. Burrows on his retirement as |
---|
35 | 36 | | Bell County judge and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |
---|
36 | 37 | | future; and, be it further |

37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
