| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Since 2007, the Big Squeeze competition has |

| 10 | 11 | | highlighted talented young musicians from across the Lone Star |

| 11 | 12 | | State who perform various genres of traditional accordion music, |

| 12 | 13 | | including Tejano, Creole, Cajun, and polka; Ms. Gonzalez was the |

| 13 | 14 | | first teenage girl from the Rio Grande Valley to take top honors in |

| 14 | 15 | | the conjunto category for players ages 17 and under; and |

| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Melenie Gonzalez grew up listening to conjunto, but |

| 16 | 17 | | it is her older sister, Carmen, a mariachi violinist, whom she |

| 17 | 18 | | credits with firing her love of music; she took up the accordion |

| 18 | 19 | | when she was 14 and studied with Jesus Lozano and Jaime Lozano, |

| 19 | 20 | | becoming a valued member of Roma High School's conjunto ensemble, |

| 20 | 21 | | Los Cardenales; for her award-winning performance in Austin, she |

| 21 | 22 | | played the classic "Polka Idalia" and a huapango, "Picame |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has proven herself to |
