| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Richard Sutterfield retired from the Arlington |

| 6 | 7 | | Independent School District in January 2019, drawing to a close |

| 7 | 8 | | more than three and a half decades of outstanding service; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A 1974 graduate of Mansfield High School, |

| 9 | 10 | | Mr. Sutterfield received a bachelor's degree in health and physical |

| 10 | 11 | | education from The University of Texas at Arlington in 1981; the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | following year, he joined Arlington ISD as a member of the faculty |

| 12 | 13 | | at Bailey Junior High, where he coached football and track and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | taught math, science, and eventually computer literacy; he then |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | went on to teach computer literacy at Boles Junior High School for |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | six years; active in the campus community at both schools, he |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | established computer clubs at Bailey and Boles; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, After earning a master's degree in educational |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | leadership and administration from the University of North Texas, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Mr. Sutterfield left Boles to become an instructional specialist |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | for Arlington ISD, responsible for educating the district's faculty |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | on ways to integrate technology into the classroom; in 2000, he |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | accepted a position as manager of the district's help desk, and his |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | expertise in computer science allowed him to create a help ticket |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | and asset tracking system that the district used for two decades; |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Sutterfield has enjoyed |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | the love and support of his wife, Martha, with whom he has shared 35 |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | years, and he takes great pride in his four children, Danielle, |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | Adam, Lukas, and Abby, and his eight grandchildren; and |

| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Richard Sutterfield's dedication, professionalism, |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | and commitment to excellence have greatly benefited the citizens of |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | Arlington, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | spent; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Richard Sutterfield on his |

| 36 | 37 | | retirement from the Arlington Independent School District and |

| 37 | 38 | | extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
