| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Becky Moeller celebrated her 70th birthday on |

| 6 | 7 | | December 13, 2018, and this occasion provided a welcome opportunity |

| 7 | 8 | | to recognize her for her invaluable contributions to the Coastal |

| 8 | 9 | | Bend region and to the State of Texas; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A committed and stalwart champion for the rights of |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | working men and women in Texas, Ms. Moeller became involved in the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | labor movement in 1967, when she joined Communications Workers of |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | America Local 6137 as an employee of Southwestern Bell in Corpus |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Christi; she went on to serve the group in a variety of leadership |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | roles, including chief steward, executive board member, vice |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | president, secretary-treasurer, and president; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 2003, Ms. Moeller won election as |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | secretary-treasurer of the Texas AFL-CIO; as the first woman to |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | hold statewide elected office in that organization, she brought |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | efficiencies and oversight to the budget that helped the union |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | successfully navigate a time of transition; she subsequently |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | assumed the office of president in 2007, and during a remarkable |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | tenure that spanned eight years, she ably led the organization's |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | legislative and community service programs on behalf of its more |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | than 235,000 members and helped implement a political education |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | effort that produced substantial gains for labor-friendly |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | candidates at the state and national levels; she also served as |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | president of the Southern Region of the AFL-CIO and on the national |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | AFL-CIO General Board; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Moeller has further benefited her fellow |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | citizens as chair of the commission overseeing the Texas Department |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | of Licensing and Regulation, and she has held membership on the |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | United Way Board of Governors and the Coastal Bend Workforce |

| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Respected and admired by all who are privileged to |

| 35 | 36 | | know her, Becky Moeller may reflect with great satisfaction on a |

| 36 | 37 | | lifetime of achievement, and it is a pleasure to join her many |

| 37 | 38 | | friends and loved ones in honoring her on this important milestone |
