5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Suzanne J. Nelson retired as superintendent of |

6 | 7 | | the Tuloso-Midway Independent School District on June 30, 2018, |
---|
7 | 8 | | after nearly a quarter century of service to that district; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Sue Nelson began her career in Edmond, Oklahoma, |
---|
9 | 10 | | initially working as a teacher and later becoming a middle and high |
---|
10 | 11 | | school principal; she joined Tuloso-Midway ISD in 1984, and after |
---|
11 | 12 | | two years as director of elementary and secondary education, she |
---|
12 | 13 | | was promoted to district superintendent; though she retired in |
---|
13 | 14 | | 1998, she went on to serve as superintendent of Eagle Pass ISD and |
---|
14 | 15 | | then once again took charge of the Tuloso-Midway district for a |
---|
15 | 16 | | brief tenure beginning in 2005; after guiding George West ISD, she |
---|
16 | 17 | | returned to Tuloso-Midway for her third tenure as superintendent in |
---|
17 | 18 | | 2010; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, During her years with TMISD, Dr. Nelson led the |
---|
19 | 20 | | district in increasing the diversity of the administrative team and |
---|
20 | 21 | | professional staff, achieving top ratings from the School Financial |
---|
21 | 22 | | Integrity Rating System of Texas, and securing the passage of a $36 |
---|
22 | 23 | | million bond package; she was also instrumental in the district's |
---|
23 | 24 | | 1994 transition to a year-round school calendar; in recognition of |
---|
24 | 25 | | her many contributions, she was named the 2016 Superintendent of |
---|
25 | 26 | | the Year for Education Service Center Region 2, and the performing |
---|
26 | 27 | | arts center at Tuloso-Midway High School was named in her honor in |
---|
27 | 28 | | 2014; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, A native of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Dr. Nelson |
---|
29 | 30 | | holds a bachelor's degree in education, a master's degree in |
---|
30 | 31 | | counseling, and a doctorate in school administration from the |
---|
31 | 32 | | University of Oklahoma, and she was inducted into the OU Education |
---|
32 | 33 | | Hall of Fame in 2018; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Through her dedication, professionalism, and |
---|
34 | 35 | | commitment to excellence, Sue Nelson has helped many young Texans |
---|
35 | 36 | | acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed, and she may |
---|
36 | 37 | | indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as she embarks on |
---|
37 | 38 | | the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
---|
39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Suzanne J. Nelson on her |
---|
40 | 41 | | retirement as superintendent of the Tuloso-Midway Independent |

41 | 42 | | School District and extend to her sincere best wishes for the |

42 | 43 | | future; and, be it further |

43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
