| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Distinguished citizens of Irving are gathering on |

| 7 | 7 | | February 20, 2019, to celebrate Irving Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce is the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | first Five Star Chamber of Commerce in Texas and actively |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | represents the interests of the largest business park in North |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Texas; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Irving began its period of rapid growth in the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | mid-20th century; the University of Dallas enrolled its first |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | students in 1956, and Irving Community Hospital began treating |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | patients in 1964; the creation of DFW International Airport and the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | creation of Las Colinas and Valley Ranch master-planned residential |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | communities contributed further to the city's growth; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Today, with the first Five Star Chamber of Commerce |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | in Texas and a population of approximately 240,000, Irving is the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | ninth most diverse city in the United States and is known as the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | "Headquarters of Headquarters" with more headquarters per capita |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | than any other city in the nation; Irving is home to more than 8,500 |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | companies, including seven Fortune 500 global headquarters: |

| 24 | 24 | | ExxonMobil, McKesson, the Fluor Corporation, Kimberly-Clark, |

| 25 | 25 | | Celanese, Pioneer Natural Resources, and Vistra Energy, and the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Fortune 1000 global headquarters for The Michaels Companies, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Commercial Metals, Darling Ingredients, Flowserve Corporation, and |
|---|

| 36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, The Irving Arts Center, three symphony orchestras, |

| 38 | 38 | | the Mandalay Canal, the museum and sculpture of the Mustangs of Las |

| 39 | 39 | | Colinas, the Toyota Music Factory, and Gables Water Street all |

| 40 | 40 | | provide entertainment for residents and visitors alike; and |

| 41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Benefiting greatly from the farsighted leadership |

| 42 | 42 | | of mayor Rick Stopfer and city council members John Danish, Allan |

| 43 | 43 | | Meagher, David Palmer, Phil Riddle, Kyle Taylor, Oscar Ward, Dennis |

| 44 | 44 | | Webb, and Al Zapanta, Irving is a forward-looking and vibrant city, |

| 45 | 45 | | and its creative and hardworking citizens are to be commended for |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | their contributions to the prosperity of the Lone Star State; now, |

| 48 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|---|
| 49 | 49 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 20, 2019, as Irving Day at |
|---|
| 50 | 50 | | the State Capitol and extend to its mayor, city council members, |
|---|
| 51 | 51 | | city manager, corporate executives, chamber representatives, and |
|---|
| 52 | 52 | | other citizens present today a warm welcome to Austin. |
