5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, East Texas lost a renowned civil servant with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Judy Clifton Bowman Pitts of Nacogdoches on February 7, |

7 | 8 | | 2018, at the age of 65; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The former Judy Clifton was born on September 14, |
---|
9 | 10 | | 1952, in Nacogdoches to W. T. and Alma Clifton, and she grew up with |
---|
10 | 11 | | the companionship of three siblings, Neal, Patti, and June; she |
---|
11 | 12 | | graduated from Central Heights High School and continued her |
---|
12 | 13 | | education at Stephen F. Austin State University and Texas A&M |
---|
13 | 14 | | University, where she earned a degree in elementary education; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In the course of her career with Child Protective |
---|
15 | 16 | | Services of Texas that spanned more than four decades, Mrs. Pitts |
---|
16 | 17 | | made a positive difference in the lives of countless children and |
---|
17 | 18 | | families across the state; she served as the director of Regions 4 |
---|
18 | 19 | | and 5, and she received numerous accolades for her exemplary public |
---|
19 | 20 | | service; named Administrator of the Year by the Texas Foster Family |
---|
20 | 21 | | Association, she was also accorded the Team and Integrity Award |
---|
21 | 22 | | from the Department of Family and Protective Services, the |
---|
22 | 23 | | Children's Partnership Vision Award from the DFPS commissioner, and |
---|
23 | 24 | | the Guardian Angel Award; moreover, she was recognized by the Black |
---|
24 | 25 | | Adoption Counsel of Southern Texas and the Casey Family Programs; |
---|
25 | 26 | | in addition to her duties with CPS, she dedicated her time to |
---|
26 | 27 | | performing volunteer work, and she was an active member of First |
---|
27 | 28 | | United Methodist Church; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Pitts enjoyed the love and support of her |
---|
29 | 30 | | husband, Milton, and they shared a rewarding marriage of 27 years; |
---|
30 | 31 | | she took great pride in her sons, Carson and Charley, and she had |
---|
31 | 32 | | the pleasure of seeing her family grow to include a grandson, |
---|
32 | 33 | | Bryson; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, An exceptional woman who devoted her life to |

34 | 35 | | children in need, Judy Pitts leaves behind a record of good works |

35 | 36 | | that will long resonate in the Nacogdoches community and beyond; |

37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
