45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Austin-based band Wood & Wire was nominated for a
67 Grammy Award for the 2019 Best Bluegrass Album for North of Despair;
78 and
89 WHEREAS, Formed in 2011, Wood & Wire includes
910 guitarist-vocalist Tony Kamel, mandolinist Billy Bright, banjo
1011 player Trevor Smith, and Dominic Fisher on upright bass; and
1112 WHEREAS, The group has recorded three full-length studio LPs,
1213 as well as two EPs and a live album; after honing their latest songs
1314 during three solid years on the road, the members elected to record
1415 North of Despair in Dripping Springs; they cut the tracks mostly
1516 live to tape, using only minimal editing, in order to retain the
1617 energy of their concerts; and
1718 WHEREAS, Wood & Wire has represented Texas admirably on the
1819 bluegrass scene, and these talented musicians may take justifiable
1920 pride in this well-deserved national recognition; now, therefore,
2021 be it
2122 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
2223 Legislature hereby congratulate Wood & Wire on its nomination for a
2324 Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album and extend to the members
2425 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
2526 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2627 prepared for the band as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2728 House of Representatives.
