45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, For 100 years, residents of Aubrey have come
67 together to celebrate their faith at Aubrey First United Methodist
78 Church; and
89 WHEREAS, The beginnings of Aubrey First United Methodist
910 Church trace back to the latter half of the 19th century, when
1011 worship services were held in log cabins near the present-day town
1112 of Aubrey; a wood-frame building was constructed in the 1880s on the
1213 corner of Plum and Maple Streets to house the local Methodist
1314 church, but it was destroyed in 1918 by a devastating tornado; in
1415 February 1919, a one-story, brick veneer replacement was completed
1516 on the original plot, and it continues to serve as the church's
1617 sanctuary today; and
1718 WHEREAS, The church was renamed Aubrey First United Methodist
1819 Church following a merger with the Evangelical United Brethren
1920 Church in 1968, and it was officially incorporated in 1986; since
2021 its inception, this notable house of worship has played a vital role
2122 in the community, providing its members with myriad opportunities
2223 for spiritual growth, fellowship, and outreach; and
2324 WHEREAS, Over the years, the congregation has benefited from
2425 the able leadership of a number of dedicated pastors, and today that
2526 tradition of service is continued by Joseph Baker; and
2627 WHEREAS, Aubrey First United Methodist Church has long served
2728 as a source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there,
2829 and its continued existence is a testament to the unwavering
2930 commitment of its members and clergy, both past and present; now,
3031 therefore, be it
3132 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
3233 Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of Aubrey
3334 First United Methodist Church and extend to its congregation
3435 sincere best wishes for many more years of shared prayer and
3536 fellowship; and, be it further
3637 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3738 prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3839 House of Representatives.
