H.R. No. 52 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The football team of Thurgood Marshall High School in Missouri City enjoyed an exceptional 2018 season, advancing all the way to the University Interscholastic League 5A Division 2 state championship game; and WHEREAS, After going undefeated in the regular season and claiming the District 11 title, the Buffalos posted initial playoff victories over Santa Fe, College Station A&M Consolidated, Port Neches-Groves, and Huntsville High Schools; in the semifinal showdown with Corpus Christi Calallen, Marshall trailed at intermission but took control with two second-half touchdowns and held on for a 19-17 win; that victory was all the more poignant because it came just four days after the tragic death of senior defensive back Drew Conley, and the Buffalo players held his memory close in the season's final games; and WHEREAS, Advancing to the state title contest for the first time in school history, Marshall matched up against top-ranked Aledo High on December 21 in a meeting of two unbeaten teams; though the Buffs saw their season come to an end in a hard-fought loss, the team's overall success in 2018 set a new standard of achievement for the Marshall High football program; and WHEREAS, Ably guided by head coach James Williams and his assistants, the Buffs received valuable contributions from each member of the roster over the course of the 2018 campaign, finishing with an impressive record of 15 wins and just a single loss; and WHEREAS, The talented and hardworking members of the Marshall High School football team have realized an exceptional accomplishment by advancing to the state championship game, and in so doing, they have become a source of great pride for their fellow students and their many supporters in the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Thurgood Marshall High School Buffalos on their successful 2018 season and extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
