|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1973, the University of |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Houston-Victoria boasts more than 19,000 alumni, including |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | acclaimed author and artist Van G. Garrett, and is meeting higher |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | education needs in a city that is home to over 65,000 people and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | that serves as a regional hub for the seven-county area known as the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Golden Crescent; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, UHV educates approximately 4,400 students annually |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | with about 1,000 graduates each year; the university offers 70 |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | bachelor's and master's degree programs with concentrations in the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | fields of arts and sciences, business administration, education, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | health professions, and human development; it was the first public |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | university in Texas to offer an accelerated bachelor's degree |

| 21 | 22 | | program, and it offers some of the lowest tuition and fees in Texas; |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The only accredited four-year university in the city |

| 24 | 25 | | of Victoria, UHV is also home to a number of formidable athletic |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of President Robert K. Glenn, |

| 29 | 30 | | UHV has continued to grow as a diverse institution, with the student |

| 31 | 32 | | countries worldwide; moreover, the school has been recognized as a |

| 33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the University of |

| 34 | 35 | | Houston-Victoria has provided its students with outstanding |

| 35 | 36 | | educational opportunities that provide flexibility, promote the |

| 36 | 37 | | financial well-being of the student, and advance the quality of |
|---|

| 39 | 40 | | growth and vitality of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |

| 40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 41 | 42 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 25, 2019, as University of |

| 42 | 43 | | Houston-Victoria Day at the State Capitol and extend to the |

| 43 | 44 | | visiting delegation sincere best wishes for an informative and |
