| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Richardson Independent School |

| 6 | 7 | | District Council of PTAs are gathering at the State Capitol on |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The RISD Council of PTAs can trace its origins back |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | to the founding of the Richardson Mother's Club in 1910; nearly two |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | decades later, in 1929, the Richardson PTA joined the National |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Parent Teacher Association, and the organization became the RISD |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Council of PTAs in 1959 under the leadership of inaugural president |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Marie Holcomb; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, the members of the council have |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | dedicated themselves to supporting the health, education, and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | overall well-being of children across the district, which is |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | located in Dallas County; the group has established a number of |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | initiatives of benefit to students and their families, such as the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | parent advisory committee, used book fair, clothes closet, and prom |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | dress boutique; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Drawing on the efforts of more than 19,000 members, |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | the RISD Council of PTAs includes 54 local PTA units at campuses in |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Richardson, Dallas, and Garland; moreover, the council provides |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | assistance to the district's alternative school; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, For the past six decades, the Richardson ISD Council |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | of PTAs has advocated for area schoolchildren and worked to advance |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | the mission of the district, and in so doing, it has played a vital |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | role in making Dallas County an even better place in which to live |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | and raise a family; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby honor the members of the Richardson Independent |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | School District Council of PTAs on the occasion of their visit to |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | the State Capitol and extend to them sincere best wishes for the |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | future. |
