| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Morton Museum of Cooke County in Gainesville |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Located in a restored building that once housed the |

| 8 | 9 | | Gainesville city hall, firehouse, and jail, the Morton Museum of |

| 9 | 10 | | Cooke County opened on December 7, 1968; owned and operated by the |

| 10 | 11 | | Cooke County Heritage Society, the museum curates a range of |

| 11 | 12 | | historical exhibits, and it also offers educational programs and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | maintains a substantial archival and photographic collection for |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | researchers; and |

| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The Morton Museum owes its existence to the efforts |

| 15 | 16 | | of concerned citizens who joined forces with the heritage society |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | in the 1960s to stop the demolition of the historic 1884 building |

| 17 | 18 | | that is now occupied by the museum; the movement was also supported |

| 18 | 19 | | by Gainesville native Granville C. Morton and his wife, Gladys, |

| 19 | 20 | | whose generous donations helped lead to the creation of this |

| 20 | 21 | | treasured landmark that bears their name; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, For the past half century, the Morton Museum of |

| 22 | 23 | | Cooke County has served as a valued resource for local residents and |

| 23 | 24 | | visitors alike, and the continued growth of the institution is a |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | tribute to the vision of its founders and the unwavering commitment |

| 25 | 26 | | of its patrons, staff, and volunteers; now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 27 | 28 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Morton Museum of Cooke County |

| 29 | 30 | | associated with the museum sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
