| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Pleasanton lost a beloved resident |

| 6 | 7 | | and civic leader with the passing of the Honorable J. Taylor Brite |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | on January 8, 2019, at the age of 97; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Thomas and Nora Brite, Taylor Brite was |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | born in San Antonio on October 27, 1921, and he grew up with the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | companionship of four siblings, Ralph, Bessie, Rita, and Iris; |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | answering his nation's call to duty, he served in the Army Air |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Forces during World War II; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Judge Brite began his exemplary 46-year career in |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | public service in 1950, when he was elected Atascosa County |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | attorney; he was appointed district attorney in 1960, and he went on |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | to serve as judge of the 81st Judicial District in South Texas and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | as senior district judge for the State of Texas; active in his |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | profession, he held the office of president of the Texas District & |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | County Attorneys Association; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Judge Brite enjoyed the love |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | and support of his wife, Frances, with whom he shared a rewarding |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | marriage that spanned 68 years until her passing; he took great |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | pride in his children, Steve, Gary, Tom, and Patricia, and he had |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include 11 grandchildren, |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Chris, Matt, Jennifer, Amy, Emily, Kevin, Robert, Tara, Taylor, |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Alan, and Rachel, and 11 great-grandchildren, Ben, Annie, John, |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Will, Zachary, Mia, Liam, Owen, Graham, Henry, and Jemma; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, The loss of Taylor Brite is keenly felt by the |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | numerous friends he made through the years as well as by the many |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | people in Atascosa County and beyond whose lives he forever |

| 31 | 32 | | enriched; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of the Honorable J. |

| 34 | 35 | | Taylor Brite and extend sincere sympathy to all who mourn his |

| 35 | 36 | | passing; and, be it further |
