| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Association for Behavior |

| 6 | 7 | | Analysis are gathering in Austin on March 6 and 7, 2019, to |

| 7 | 8 | | celebrate TxABA Days at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Association for Behavior Analysis works to |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | advance the science and application of applied behavior analysis, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | or ABA, a type of therapy that is considered an evidence-based best |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | practice treatment by the U.S. Surgeon General and the American |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Psychological Association; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, ABA is used to build a range of skills and reduce |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | problematic behaviors in individuals with autism, intellectual and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | developmental disabilities, learning and communication |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | difficulties, brain injuries, physical disabilities, and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | age-related infirmities, as well as in more typically developing |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | children and adults; it has been shown to have significant benefits |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | for clients in a variety of settings and to decrease the need for |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | special services; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, TxABA is a state chapter of the Association for |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Behavior Analysis International and an affiliate of the Association |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | of Professional Behavior Analysts; today, 11 Texas colleges and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | universities offer degrees in the field of behavior analysis, and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | during the 85th Legislative Session in 2017, the Texas Legislature |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | created licensure for board-certified behavior analysts and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | assistant behavior analysts; in its mission to serve as an |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | information resource for the public, in addition to professional |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | behavior analysts, TxABA hosts an online provider directory for |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | consumers to locate consultants and organizations in their area |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | that have expertise in behavior analysis; and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Applied behavior analysts have excelled in their |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | efforts to enhance the quality of life for their clients, and the |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | Texas Association for Behavior Analysis merits praise for advancing |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | the practice of this important profession in our state; now, |

| 36 | 37 | | therefore, be it |

| 37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 6 and 7, 2019, as TxABA Days at |

| 39 | 40 | | the State Capitol and extend to members of the Texas Association for |

| 40 | 41 | | Behavior Analysis sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and |

| 41 | 42 | | informative visit; and, be it further |
