| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Ian McKenna, a sophomore at the Liberal Arts and |

| 7 | 8 | | volunteers in Texas by the 2019 Prudential Spirit of Community |

| 8 | 9 | | Awards program; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Sponsored by Prudential Financial and the National |

| 10 | 11 | | Association of Secondary School Principals, the Spirit of Community |

| 11 | 12 | | Awards honor students in middle school and high school who have |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | communities; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. McKenna established "Giving Gardens" at four |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | area schools, along with one in his backyard, to grow fruits and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | vegetables for families in need; in the course of six years, the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | gardens have yielded more than 18,000 pounds of fresh produce, and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Mr. McKenna has raised more than $60,000 for these and other hunger |

| 19 | 20 | | relief endeavors; and |

| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, This inspiring young Texan has devoted his time, |

| 21 | 22 | | talents, and resources to serving others with a generosity and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | selflessness well beyond his years, and he is a source of great |

| 23 | 24 | | pride to all who know him; now, therefore, be it |

| 24 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 25 | 26 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Ian McKenna on his receipt of a |
