45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band, the nation's largest
67 military marching band, is celebrating its 125th anniversary in
78 2019; and
89 WHEREAS, The official marching band of Texas A&M University,
910 the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band was established in 1894 under the
1011 direction of Joseph Holick; originally composed of only 13 cadets,
1112 the group now has approximately 400 musicians in its ranks; the
1213 unit's members belong to the school's Corps of Cadets and perform
1314 during halftime at all home games and select away games for the
1415 Aggies' football team; renowned for its intricate drills, precise
1516 formations, and distinctive sound that favors traditional march
1617 scores over contemporary pieces, the band has earned legendary
1718 status through the decades; and
1819 WHEREAS, Appearing at a wide range of events over the years,
1920 the Aggie Band helped celebrate the first Armistice Day in 1919 and
2021 has performed at presidential and gubernatorial inaugurations, at
2122 presidential funerals, and at parades, concerts, and various other
2223 civic functions in College Station and Bryan; in honor of its long
2324 tradition of excellence, the band received the John Philip Sousa
2425 Foundation's Sudler Trophy in 2001; and
2526 WHEREAS, The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band is a vibrant part of
2627 the rich cultural fabric of the Lone Star State, representing the
2728 university's core values of integrity, leadership, respect, and
2829 selfless service, and its members are indeed deserving of
2930 recognition on this special occasion; now, therefore, be it
3031 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
3132 Legislature hereby congratulate the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band on
3233 its 125th anniversary and extend to each member sincere best wishes
3334 for continued success; and, be it further
3435 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3536 prepared for the Aggie Band as an expression of high regard by the
3637 Texas House of Representatives.
