5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band, the nation's largest |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The official marching band of Texas A&M University, |

9 | 10 | | the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band was established in 1894 under the |

10 | 11 | | direction of Joseph Holick; originally composed of only 13 cadets, |
---|
11 | 12 | | the group now has approximately 400 musicians in its ranks; the |
---|
12 | 13 | | unit's members belong to the school's Corps of Cadets and perform |
---|
13 | 14 | | during halftime at all home games and select away games for the |
---|
14 | 15 | | Aggies' football team; renowned for its intricate drills, precise |
---|
15 | 16 | | formations, and distinctive sound that favors traditional march |
---|
16 | 17 | | scores over contemporary pieces, the band has earned legendary |

17 | 18 | | status through the decades; and |

18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Appearing at a wide range of events over the years, |

19 | 20 | | the Aggie Band helped celebrate the first Armistice Day in 1919 and |

20 | 21 | | has performed at presidential and gubernatorial inaugurations, at |

21 | 22 | | presidential funerals, and at parades, concerts, and various other |

22 | 23 | | civic functions in College Station and Bryan; in honor of its long |

23 | 24 | | tradition of excellence, the band received the John Philip Sousa |

24 | 25 | | Foundation's Sudler Trophy in 2001; and |

25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band is a vibrant part of |

26 | 27 | | the rich cultural fabric of the Lone Star State, representing the |

27 | 28 | | university's core values of integrity, leadership, respect, and |

28 | 29 | | selfless service, and its members are indeed deserving of |

29 | 30 | | recognition on this special occasion; now, therefore, be it |

30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band on |
